Convention is not always the best approach the way I placed them emphasises the intimacy of the scene I think as the eye is led to there togetherness, if that makes sense

I guess not everyone appreciates a photo where the subject isn't perfectly centred, or that isn't balanced.
As for your other one, maybe the person didn't recognise the significance of the clock?

Centre isn't allways what a picyure is about, the whole frame is important for me, as a fan of Duchamp I just love the element of chance and the oportunity to take advantage of the situation. The expressions on the faces of the three women are interesting but so are their surroundings. The clock gives a sence of urgency and the people in the background symbolise spent activity and a need to move on to the next experience. So as you see it is all important something you obviously identify. Thank you

Exactly, and when a photographer frames an image a certain way, you have to consider that there's a reason for it and think about what they were trying to show.
