Total Time (so far): 3 HoursLikes: Hair & Eyes
Dislikes: The parts I forgot to do and the over scraping it did on one of his hair highlights. And I think his face looks a little chubbier than it should be...that was my fault.
I can't believe I forgot to finish scratching some parts of him. Anyway, I guess this makes him 95% done or something. I was going to do Ashe after Basch, but I'm having problems with her picture reference.
Vaan came out okay. The transitions were a pain in the butt and at one point, I really hated his hair style...

Out of the entire series, Vaan was my favourite character, for his lack-luster attitude and charisma. I love your interpretation of him. He looks so perfect! :]

Oh! *gasp* You just stole my heart, that is like my favorite view of Vaan, he was a smidge annoying in the beginning but he quickly grew on me. I couldn't resist his enthusiastic boyish charm! This picture is such a good recreation, looks just like him!

Scratchboard/clayboard are a layer of white chalk layered over with black ink. You take a sharp point, like an X-acto knife, and scrap away at the black ink to reveal the white layer beneath. The more you scrape at an area, the whiter that area will become. It's kind of the opposite of sketching with dark graphite on light colored paper.

If you scrape too much, you can always re-ink that area with black ink. Of course, you can only do this so many times before you end up scraping all the way to the bottom. >_<

don't worry about his hair. the light bit at the top is pretty intense, but it only seems like he's below a sewer grate or something: in a dark place with bright light coming from above.
and i just noticed that it looks like he's raising an eyebrow! too cute!

This is a really unique way of working! I really like how the scratches can bring out the form and 3D depth of the picture.
