So, I'm trying out these fancy-pants blue pencils all you professional types keep going on about. I'm liking them, but much practice is still required. Hence, this.Fanart/possible CD-case cover for featuring Jenna and Coral, my favorite two of the HEXAGON DEATH SQUAD (HDS). Qt75Rx1 just posted a journal entry about how "HDS's cast was designed explicitly to appeal to a wide variety of tastes. You've got Ally for the guys who sporty girls, redheads, and freckles, Coral for the spacey, gothy, quirky niche, Tessa is a Ruebenesque figure, Ari has T&A and a bit of dark-skinned, raven-haired beauty for a touch of the exotic, Jenna is cool, deadly, a femme fatale, and Kaycee is for the crowd who likes them slightly geeky, cute, and young-looking." That in mind, infer what you will from this. Anyhow, it got me thinking about how much I love his characters and this just sort of popped out. It happens.

I like it, one question. Blue pencils? I'm still new to the drawing-with-anything-other-than-a-regular-mechanical-pencil-from-Wal-mart, so I'm interested in any new technological developments of the pencil.

Turns out a certain hue of blue won't show up when scanned, meaning you can ink directly over the pencils without having to erase them afterward, like I normally do. You can grab them up at any art supply store. While you're there, pick up some bristol board if you're not already using it. It's tough, cardboard-like paper that can take any inking you throw at it. When you use as much black as I like to, it's essential!

Coral looks like she`s going to kill me, eat me, and dump the carcass. nice touch.

She's not the kind of girl who'd do that. Actually, Coral doesn't really like to kill people -- that's why she specialized in killing machines.
If she were forced to kill you, she'd probably forget about you once you're dead and become fascinated in the patterns of blood spatters on the wall.

Oh, yeah, because THAT is SO MUCH comfortating that getting eated. No, she`ll just stare at the blood- MY blood splatered at the wall and say "Some pretty flowers". whew, what a relief.

That looks incredibly cool, man. HDS rocks incredibly hard when drawn in your signature high-contrast style.

Anyhow, I was trying something a little new here. It's got my black and white, but also tried to sketch up the rendering of the clothing a bit to imitate your own style. It's better suited for the HDS crew, I think -- when I try to do them up in straight-up high-contrast black and white, I don't know, they seem to lose some of their edge.

I'm pretty sure Coral would still manage to look cool even if a blind two year old was drawing her, but damn, she looks cool here. Same goes for Jenna.
The scratchy looking shading on their clothes and the way Coral's hair falls over her face are just brilliant.
...I think what I need to do now is go draw a picture of Coral myself. To test my 'blind two year old' theory, hah. And anyway, Qt75Rx1 doesn't get nearly enough fanart.

Wow, that's a really awesome take on Coral and Jenna. Unusual but very striking style too which lends itself well to the HDS style while still looking very "Dan".
These are my faves from the series too. Great work.
