Description Sometime I feel like my Fowl comic is a postmodern remake of a wholesome, silver age version of the Fowl. This smiling, punny hero would have fought crime with his partner and lover, Madeline Cross, who wore a similar costume and called herself Lady-Fowl or something. But I, all nasty and dark-age-of-comicsy, remade him as a mentally ill gun-toting outlaw and her as his sardonic, chain-smoking police ally because I thought the Lady-Fowl costume was to stupid to work into my serious, modern story. This isn't at all true, of course. Just a funny thought. [link]

Art for the Fowl's corner of Cranky Octopus. Color directed by yours truly and executed by the cunning . Good day.

Well, thinking on the different people who-in the universe of the Fowl and the many that resemble it-would dare dawn the beak and goggles themselves, I remembered a certain hero of the DC universe named Knight who, dressing in a Batman-esque suit of armor, fought crime in Great Britain along side his Robin-like sidekick Squire.

I could only wonder who the Fowl would inspire...

The Pecker, the Toucan, and the Siskin. A degenerate with a heart of gold, a crazed vet with rubber bullets, and a poor little rich girl with too little adult supervision, respectively. They have weekly meetings with random other Fowl enthusiasts. Maybe we'll join them, sometime...

Well, I've given mental-birth to the Cardinal and Blue Jay. An ex-military holy man and his gruff, punk female counterpart.

You know, I've always liked "the Cardinal" as a character name. Makes me think of a big, barrel-chested guy with flowing, sleeveless robes. And Blue Jay is kind of a punk name for someone, isn't it? Never thought of that, but it makes sense. His niece, I'd think, whose stuffy liberal parents disapprove of all the time she spends with her post-combat, right-wing uncle.

You'd get a lot of these Fowl-imitators in various parts of the city. Rich kids, desperate adults, and crazy people of all ages.

She was forced on him by her parents in the hopes that his military background, holyman lifestyle, and the crotchety-ness that those to supply would be enough to either sort her out or make her never want to get into trouble again. It saves them from having to pay for boot camp. Having a parish in one of the worst parts of town, Cardinal[name pending] knows a thing or two about how to deal with the young folk. He isn't, however, able to keep his alter ego a secret forever. Sneaking after him, she found him pinned down in a gang related weapons deal he had interrupted. Crashing her Vespa through the window, he broke into a box of RPGs and solve the situation the old fashion way. Escaping with their lives, and an extremely damaged vespa, the Cardinal decided to take his young neice under his wing as a crime fighter. dawning some light homemade body armor and an altered bike helmet, she became Blue Jay, her friend's nickname for her, her real name being Jane Bluemound.

Somewhere out there is an alternate dimension where the two are going at it like mad. I'm assuming that's the darker age Fowl.

It sure has its roots in the pulps (the Shadow in particular), but in the years since its inception, the series has grown in wild new directions across comics, film, and even metaphysical influences. It's been fascinating to trace the development.

Love your signature, by the bye.

Hmm... so in the Silver Age Fowl stories, Penny then would instead be a sage old male servant named Pensworth. You re-made Pensworth into the female Penny just to be edgy, didn't you?

Does, doesn't it? The more I've been doing this, the more I've started seeing my stuff as "having a Mignola vibe" rather than "playing a bad cover of Mignola", which I used to be afraid of falling into. So, thanks!
