Description
The flight suit were build to withstand rough conditions at high altitudes of bombing missions.
The bombers were not pressurized ,and the temperature inside the cockpit could freeze at - 40° C . They also needed oxigen masks and heated suits . At this altitude ,without breathing assistance an airmen could faint in less 5 minutes and die in 10 minutes.
That why ,despite the parachutes, the crews had very slight chances of surviving the drop when evacuating at high bombing altitude missions.
