Description I'm trying to make better use of tone-mapped HDR images. The extreme ones end up with blinding halos around things when the image is thumbnailed. Here, I've tried to tweak the tone-mapping settings to preserve local contrast without creating such artificial-looking transitions between areas of varying brightnesses.

This is cool, what did you use to do the tone mapping?

Photomatix's tone mapping plugin for Photoshop CS4.
