Description Blue Parchment was not in the best of moods. Having been stopped in his intensive search of the Oan archives for forgotten lore on the Agricultural Revolution of Post-unification Equestrian history by a summons relayed through his ring, he had been obliged to set down the thirty or so volumes he'd been looking over, and make his way to the Guardian's Citadel.
He did not resent the summons itself, as he considered a face-to-face talk with the Guardians themselves as something so rare, it was almost historical in and of itself, but he could never quite suppress bitterness and annoyance when it came to interrupting his studies. As he exited the Hall of Great Service and entered onto the grand plaza across from the Green Lantern Memorial, he looked up on a sudden premonition. Anyone looking at him might have been surprised at how intently he seemed to be staring into space, but if they were Blue Parchment was not aware of it. He stared up at the dark sky, and far away at the many stars lining the velvety expanse of space. He wasn't sure what it was, but something was... off? Different? He couldn't put his hoof on it. It was like trying to spot a single hair out of place in someone's mane.
Adjusting his glasses a little, he gave a running jump and lifted into the air, a green aura of power making him weightless. Within moments the Citadel, resplendent with the Central Power Battery at its peak, came swiftly into view. As he landed before the great doors, a four-armed alien with an elongated head looked up from several floating computer constructs.

"Go in immediately" he said. Blue nodded and passed by. He had the feeling Salaak was trying to sound urgent, but he always sounded serious, so it was hard to tell.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Blue found himself awed by the tunnel leading towards the Guardian's chamber. It wasn't the presence of well established power, nor the pristine and practical lack of ostentation of the hallowed halls. No, what always impressed Blue was the knowledge of how ancient this place was, how much blood, sweat, and toil had gone into establishing its noble history, but perhaps most prominently, it was the indefinable feeling he had deep in his bones about approaching the Guardians, the immortal founders of the Green Lantern Corps.
With these thoughts in mind, Blue took a moment to pause before the great doors set in the shape of the Corps.' distinctive symbol, before setting his hoof to the crack. The door opened with a hiss, the air drawing lightly into the opening door as though it were taking a slow, deliberate breath.

"Enter, Green Lantern 2819" said a low voice. Blue did as he was bidden. The room he stepped into perhaps deserved more than the name 'room'. Anyone unfamiliar would immediately feel a distinct sense of vertigo as they stepped out onto the infinitude of deep space that was the floor, walls, and ceiling. Stars, planets, meteors, and other celestial bodies all hovered both far and near, so distinct they could have been real.
Blue looked up, and gave what he hoped was a respectfully deferential bow of his head to the cluster of figures hovering in the centre of the room. In the middle of them was a bright white object that threw their forms into silhouette, all except for their eyes, which glowed with a low but distinct green light.

"Guardians" Blue said into the silence.

"Come forward" said one of them. It was hard to tell which one spoke. They all spoke in the flat, monotonous voice of an elder with the experience of one who has seen many wild, wonderful, and crushing things in their time. It was really only possible to distinguish them between the males and the females.
Blue made it way forward, stepping across the darkness of space, passing a nebula and a tiny planet no larger than a marble, until he stood amongst the floating guardians. They regarded him for a moment, all of them robed in red and white, their blue hair and aged white manes looking as though they were carved from stone. One, a female, turned her head, and her horn glowed with a subtle green light. The map all around began to shift.

"There has been a most disturbing occurrence in your sector"

"In my sector?" Blue asked, somewhat alarmed. "My ring did not alert me to-"

"No" a male Guardian said. "We intercepted the warning and prevented it from reaching you" Blue blinked, and opened his mouth to say something, before realising he didn't quite know what to say. After a few moments of silence, and the map continued to distort, shift, and zoom, he thought he had a grasp on his tongue.

"May I ask why? Is it serious?"

"It is a situation we have long considered a possibility" one Guardian said, before another continued

"Something we believe will present a significant threat if left unchecked"

"What has happened?" Blue asked, a little louder than before. The Guardians all stared at him. After a somewhat uncomfortable silence, a male Guardian said

"Sunburn Flare" Blue frowned.

"What?" he asked. The map began to slow down, and in the distance, Blue saw a tiny yellow glimmer in the distance, a star brighter than all of those surrounding it.

"You are aware of the events, 1,000 ago, when one of the two rulers of your homeworld was twisted by her own magic and bitterness in the legendary being, Nightmare Moon"

"Yes" Blue said, feeling a sudden weight in his heart. He clung to a glimmer of hope that they were not saying what he thought they were saying.
"She hasn't returned?" he asked, a tremour of urgency in his voice.

"No" a female Guardian confirmed. Blue felt his heart lighten slightly.

"It is of the other ruler that this matter is concerned" Blue's heart sank right back beyond what it had before, threatening to drop through his ribcage.

"No...!" he exclaimed, looking around in the vain, impossible hope that the Guardians were joking. The Guardians don't 'do' joking.

"We are not fully aware of the circumstances" the female Guardian altering the map said. The glow int he distance zoomed quickly in, and as it did so multiple green beams of light zoomed along, zipping passed and around Blue and the Guardians, around stars and planets that zoomed by, heading towards the glow. As the map finally stopped moving, a monstrous star burned with a ferocious light at the centre of the room. Blue looked up at it, horror on his face, as planets near to it boiled and burned, the fire alight upon them being drawn into the great mass of light and heat. Blue couldn't be sure of what he was seeing; he thought he saw the thing move, reach out great loops of flame, intensify its surface so that a heavily distorted face framed itself violently from within the burning white depths of the star, defying the incoming streams of green that were racing to meet it in battle.

"But it is clear to us" continued another Guardian "that the situation deserves our personal attention"

Just a little back-story there. You can make your own story if you like, I just wanted an excuse to draw the Guardian ponies again X3

Blue: *Adjusts his glasses whilst giving Markus an arch look* Perhaps. Let me tell you from the first however, that I've gone through every surviving historical record detailing the various exploits of Princess Celestia and her sister since the founding of Equestria during the beginning of the Classical Era up until the modern day. Do you know how many times that they've lost to another power?

What indeed. What could make the usually tolerant and benign Celestia decide to burn the universe? Do we dare fathom the minds of gods?
