great work, I've just drawn this very picture myself. How did you get it to look so smooth? Also what did you use to get it so black?

Hi, this piece was actually done in mostly 8B pencil. Yeah, though, charcoal is difficult. You really only have one chance to get the skin right, after that, it will smudge and layer on in ways you do not want it to. I suggest charcoal on coloured paper (like gray canson)? Also using both black and white charcoal will make for a much smoother drawing

heey,
The suggestion, colored paper i wil defently try that wan out, i like the portraits in gray tones who i see here on deviant art a lot but never get it right myself. I have the colered charcoal set from derwent, it's a shame that here in the netherlands there is not a little bit more fore sale from that stuff.

This is amazing! The leather looks so real! How do you make your blending so smooth? Mine comes out smudgey and horribe...

Thank you! A lot of layering goes into it, usually the first few times I use tissue, but the radius of that is only limited to the size of your finger, so after that you use blending stumps/tortillon.

Thank you, yeah it was frustrating at first but once you get to do the flyaway hairs with the eraser, then it gets fun
