This is quite a special photograph for me and represents perhaps the moment that kickstarted my love of shooting aircraft.

It was taken way back in 2008 at Old Sarum Airfield in Wiltshire, and having only owned an DSLR camera for around six months when this was shot, and this being only May, this was one of the first few aviation events at which I had attempted to shoot aircaft. Of course like everybody starting out on any adventure, much of my very early attempts came to nothing. Blurry images, horrendously dark and of course many images with noses cut out of frame etc. However this particular image of the then Aerial Museum Supermarine Spitfire HF.VIIIc was my first "successful" hit. The one image from a bunch of terrible images that gave me hope that perhaps I could do this.

I was really proud of the image at the time and couldn't believe that I was actually behind the lens. But of course that was just beginners pride and over the years I have since learned what a DSLR can really do if those skills are really pushed, a lesson I am still learning. I lost my love of this image for much of the intervening years since shooting it because I have simply got better. However now I look back with fondness as if it were not for this image, I may well have given up, and of course today I am able to really get the most out of even my earliest efforts with the photoshop knowledge I have since gained.
