Well, I thought I'd get the hype going for the show. So I'm posting some of the concept art I did for the ThunderCats tv show that will be on soon enough. This is basically what I'd pass over to the incredible Takahiro Tanaka at 4c to put his spin on for final production.Related content

To behonest I have not yet seen the new series yet but these designs look pretty dang good.
It does bring up one question that I've had since the original series...
Where are the female Mutants? In theory they should exist but we have never even had mere suggestion that they do. Unless of course what makes the mutants, mutants is that they are artificially birthed in big vats someplace.

I do like the design of General Slithe, it stays true to the original but here he looks a lot less...erm...corny. It sure must have been fun to work on a project like this.

I like the new show a lot, especially the design of the lizards in comparison to the original 80s show. By any chance, does anyone know how the female lizards will look?

Seeing as real lizards don't differ that much by sex, shouldn't they look about the same?
Then again, female and male cats look pretty much the same, too.

Yeah, in nature, it is difficult to tell a male lizard from a female one, but usually there are some differences upon closer inspection.
True, but in the show it appears we may be dealing with human animal hybrids. The cats look pretty human and even the lizards do to some extent.
Not that I know of. I just hope if we get to see them in the show, they look somewhat like this [link]
I hate it when people stick boobs on dragons/lizards/reptiles to show they are female. It does not make sense.

I agree, reptile boobs are just weeeird. Then again, I'm not that keen on even mammalian animals having the "perfect, huge, round" boobs. Weird all around.

Yeah, I get it is difficult to separate the female reptiles from the males, but please, no boobs lol. You just got to let them talk, plus their behavior is different from the males, as in being more passive or aggressive for example. It really depends on the species cause it looks like their are multiple species of lizards present in the show.

It makes sense from a recognition standpoint. The show really is made for kids. Kids (or adults for that matter) wouldn't recognize that as female just by looking at them. It would just end up confusing people. That's why people put boobs on female reptilian anthros. There comes a point when being scientifically accurate is detriment to getting the look and feel of the character you want to present.

It doesn't make sense because in nature lizards do not rear their young no nurse them like mammals do. I can understand the cats and other female anthro mammals having them, but not reptiles. I'm not sure if the lizards in the show rear their young like humans/mammals do.
Well, they are usual cosmetic differences between the males and females of specific reptile species. Sometimes the females are bigger than the males or smaller for example.
Plus, when the females talk, you have your answer right there. That is the best way to tell for a human trying to figure out the sex of a female reptilian character. Otherwise I hear they eat you...

and on top of that you'll have the anti-gay people seeing pictures of couples of the characters and even if they're not technically males they look like males and they'll raise hell thinking the show is promoting homosexuality.

And you've completely missed my point. This isn't a scientific lab or a classroom. It's a TV show. One aimed at kids at that. There are certain things that need to be instantly apparent when looking at a character and gender is one of them. You know what would happen if you had a female lizard anthro that has no human female traits speak like a woman? little kids would go to their parents and say "Daddy why does he sound like a girl?"
Would you want Cheetara to have the same exact body shape as Tygra and Lion-O? Male and Female cats also look just alike until extremely close inspection. They can't show reproductive organs on the show so how do the viewers know what they are? By giving them a point of reference by including human features. You have to think about what the general audience would think about and what they would know.
You can't get too technical and scientific with stuff like this. If you want to be like that there wouldn't be any lizard anthros in the first place because they don't exist in real life.

That actually sounds kind of funny,but I do see your point though. Since you are so heavily defending this, is this how female lizards will be portrayed if they ever show up in the show?
The way these animals look in the show makes wonder if they aren't human in some way. Humans were kind of in the original one.

yes I looked, and yes it did look male to me. I have no idea how or if they'll appear in the show, but I do believe they'd be recognizable as female even with lizard qualities. They had female fish in episode three and they had breasts, so I imagine the lizards would too.

It is a possibility since the Thundercats need to unite all the animals to defeat Mumm-Ra. One things clear so far about the lizards, it seems they don't let their females in their military as all the lizards so far have been male.
I have a feeling you're going to be right then if that was the case with the fish people.
Still, I wonder if humans will be involved in the new one as in the original. Though that might not be a good thing considering what they did in Avatar.
