Description Since a lot of work has been done on Postler recently that pretty much fulfilled my old mockups, I decided to change this to just a single screen that covered some things that haven't been implemented yet (like attachments).

-- Disclaimer --
Just because something is mocked up, doesn't mean it'll go down like this. It's just an idea.

I might post a few designs for Geary, but for the most part it'll inherit the visual work that was done for Postler and we'll just make small refinements from there.

Really like those rounded corners on the bottom part of the window! It gives out more style! I want to see an email client like this!

Do you ask this for every Elementary mockup you see? I've seen this like 3 times

It looks like you took all of my good suggestions and even the disclosure triangle from my little Postler mockup. I love the way you changed the blue unread dot to a number. The number of unread messages in a conversation is much more useful than the number of total messages. Nice work.

Now that Oneiric is getting smoothly rounded corners on the windows, will Elementary go for that too? It makes all the difference

Anyway, looks awesome as always!

Definitely. I'm anxiously waiting for Cimi's work to land so we can use it too

Also, I suggest a "Reply in New Window" option. Sometimes you just want to reply fast, but other times you need a full window to write a more elaborate response.

The text filed expands as you type, so you can write as much as you want

I haven't received Postler updates in a while. Is the dev PPA still being updated? Or is this just too unstable to be packaged?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanRabbit In reply to ArturoIlhuitemoc [2011-08-19 17:51:59 +0000 UTC]

Postler hasn't been building in the daily ppa for a while for some reason, but it's still being updated in git quite frequently.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArturoIlhuitemoc In reply to DanRabbit [2011-08-21 02:43:01 +0000 UTC]

It won't build because it says I don't have valac installed, either with or without the --disable-gtk3 flag. But I do have it installed. What's the problem?

I couldn't tell you, I'm not a programmer I would advise checking out #postler on irc.freenode.net

You can double-click the message to make it appear in its own window, or you can simply maximize the window using the icon on the top-right. The HTML content will display within the content area, similar to how it works in Gmail.

Will it be possible to write an email in a new window or are we limited to the small Reply field?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CassidyJames In reply to nsrosenqvist [2011-08-19 15:37:43 +0000 UTC]

A little button to open the reply in a new window would be nice, considering we have the compose dialog already. It might even work to do that through Contractor; not sure though.

nsrosenqvist In reply to CassidyJames [2011-08-20 13:04:18 +0000 UTC]

It's really nice to heave the IM like mail thread, but I would still like to be able to write a long reply in a separate window while I browse the rest of my emails btw, the attachment links looks great! Get them implemented!

Why opening a dialog to write a new mail if you can reply fast into the main window ?

How will it react with Dexter ? Will it open the main window of Postler ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DanRabbit In reply to Shakipu [2011-08-19 06:25:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure how writing a completely new mail would work in the context of inline writing. I think the inline stuff is only for replying right now.

No, creating an email from anywhere else in elementary will only invoke the compose dialog, not the entire Postler window.

THIS is the best Application-design I've ever seen. The elementary project has the best designed apps and they're very easy to use. If Postler was look like that, It would be even better. P.S.: I'm an elementaryOS-User

This is really interesting, though I'd love to see the account properties screen. I've been seeing a trend in a lot of the elementary apps to really simplify the experience and remove a lot of rarely needed options. I completely agree that those kinds of things clutter up interfaces and makes computers much harder than they really need to be. On the other hand when experts need to configure something, like a strange email account for instance, it's really sad to see that there's no way to manually set various options. I was wondering what your thoughts are on moving something like that to a config file somewhere, an interface that very well communicates "THIS IS FOR EXPERTS ONLY".

BassUltra In reply to samineru [2011-06-05 14:28:05 +0000 UTC]

I don't think experts would like an interface that is complicated for the sake of being complicated.

I don't really think it's possible to have it come out from under the toolbar like that, and even if it was the toolbar actions are not relevant to that window.

It could probably be done using nefarious hacky methods but it would probably be a global setting and you'd get inconsistencies across the OS.

Deppvomdienst [2011-04-19 13:45:25 +0000 UTC]

Very good but I don't like the popup window.

In my oppinion it's one of the most annoying Feature of OS X.
For example: If you are composing a new mail and you have to check something in a mail from the inbox you can't do it with a modal window if it would be implemented this way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

davbren In reply to Deppvomdienst [2011-04-21 09:49:10 +0000 UTC]

if its a custom popup window then theres no reason why it could have an autohide when the mouse goes into the rest of postler.

It doesn't make sense to have more than one window for email. At work, I'm forever trying to find the email I was looking at, the reply belongs to the email you are replying to. It makes good design sense.

theRealPadster [2011-04-19 12:09:41 +0000 UTC]

You really shouldn't have the "sent from Postler" thing. Those are so annoying.
