I've seen the "pilot" test cartoon they did for "The Real Gostbusters", in which Slimer was one of the opponent ghosts. With respect to the series, I think it would have been more interesting if Slimer had been more the "Dr. Smith" and less the "Scrappy-Doo" of the series, actively -- or coincidentally -- causing bigger menaces for the boys to take care of while he ran around free.

You know, technically, his name is never spoken in the movies, only in the two cartoons series is he 'Slimer'. On the original movie scripts, he's named 'Onionhead' and...and...oh dear god, I'm a nerd. When the hell did that happen?
Hm, still, I suppose being a nerd for Ghostbusters is better than being a Trekkie.
