Everything works so well here. 1. The composition is perfect, keeping the king in the middle surrounded by this sort of holy light, which shows how important he is. 2. The color scheme, which is a somber cool blue, showing how this is a royal event, yet not joyous. And 3. The gritty texture, which unconsciously enhances the gritty, disheveled "middle ages" theme.
