For a person that is severely spheksophobic (afraid of wasps, but in a way that can really be a clinical condition... no really, I'm scared shitless of them), I find hornets... strangely fascinating. Enought to risk being biten by a japanese hornet only to see it up close.

Ouch... luckily this specimen was really, really calm But few times we were attacked by this species, the best way to get world record on 100m

Absolutely beautiful Photo! How do you get them to stand still for such a close up shot?

Thank you

It was a cold day, so the insect was almost totally immobilised. Sometimes it is also very easy to take their shots in the night, when they are sleepy and bewildered.

Just one question. How do you get such great shots? I love taking images of bugs, but I find it hard to get that close to them when they're alive.

If you take pictures in the early morning or late evening (sometimes in the night) daily active insects are bewildered and less mobile. During a day, you need a lot of luck and a bit of knowledge, how they behave, where they live ect. We are entomologists, so it is much easier for us to take this type of pictures.
