This is from the contest GHZ had... some time ago. I won second place with it (yay 20 dollars!).I rushed to make it at the time (contest deadline), so the background kind of sucks (fyi, those stars were made by me, not a stock photo or texture), and it never turned out as well as I'd of liked it too.
But, whatever.
Not sure why I like Sonic the Fighters, really. I think it's because of the characters.
I now await for this deviation to get a bajillion favorites just because it has Sonic on it.

Excellent! You should've got more than $20 I reckon. I see you snuck Honey The Cat in there. I wonder why she got the axe in the first place? Maybe the unused music in the game had something to do with her as well. Anyone know? But yeah, great picture! I don't think the background sucks really.

They "ran out" of time, because every single Sonic game besides a few modern Sonic games, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Blast and Sonic 3D Blast are rushed. Their deadlines are so tight we have 3 games near the bottom of "Worst games made": Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic 4 Ep 1.

This is fantatsic <3 To be honest I think SEGA should remake this game, with the same characters, they may update them a little bit though with it being years now XD.
The poses are brillent for each character and I really like the BG specially the fact of the Eggman/Robitnik symbol along with Metal Sonic, great work <3

I'm not very good with most fighting arcade games (mostly 'cause of the complex control combinations for special moves) but I admit I thought "Sonic the Fighters" was kinda fun, with it's cartoony/humorous animations, and cast of characters.
Nicelly done piece, I like the Death Egg details in the background, and drew each character perfectlly.
It's nice to see an obscure Sonic game get some love.
I'm a li'l embarressed to admit it, but I'm best with Amy. lol

LOL I bough Sonic gems,a nd that's the only game I like! It's super easy though, I beat it in about 6 min with Bark the polar bear. He rules!!

That's a really awesome depiction of the game, especially the evil-looking Metal Sonic picture and the characters look great. I have appreciation for anyone who colors the characters their right colors. The light is bothering me a little though. The lightness of the characters should have a blue tent to them like Tails and Bean do since the light around them looks like a night scene.
I love Tails in this picture, Nack/Fang looks awesome, also. But his ears had color in them back then, though the games never showed it. They were wite on the inside. Also, he had 2 whiskers and not just one. Amy is so cute in this picture but is she a bit short? Knuckles looks a little short also and Espio seems a bit skinny.
I'm not sure who the character in back is, with the black hair, who is she? o.o;

- Not a night scene. More like a poster scene, where the backdrop and foreground aren't entirely connected. You may notice there is no actual 'ground', despite the shadows.
- Fang's ears do not have colour in them and never have to what I'm aware of. Only recently in the Archie comics has he developed inner ear colour (possibly he had inner ear colour in Fleetway as well, but that I'm unsure on). I will cite the Sonic the Fighter's Fang plush I have, various video game sprites, and official manual art. I have drawn him with two tufts of fur, however Sonic's uppermost spine overlaps the lower fur tuft.
- The character in back is Honey the Cat, a character that was meant to be included in Sonic the Fighters but removed at the last moment. Her game data still exists within the game. You can see a unlocked and (almost) properly rendering video of her in game here: [link]

I don't remember ever seeing her anywhere else. Has she ever appeared in the Archie comics? And did they just use Knuckles' programming for a base to restore her or are her powers really like Knux'? I think they should've used her in place of Amy - not that I don't like oldschool Amy (OLDSCHOOL, I hate new Amy) bu she's, like, younger than Tails when these games were made... And in STF once you break her shield she's pretty helpless. Seems like she should be te first to fight since she's so weak. o.o;
The Archie comics have always illustrated his ears. I brought it up because in older Sonic games, some characters were missing things like that. In Sonic R, Tails' actually model you race with is missing it's ear colors. I just thought this was confused with Fang/Nack's model. I usually go by the comics when looking for references on older characters )except Tails because Archie drew him like a retarded fluffy rat) so I really had no idea. XD

Honey only appeared in Sonic Fighters. She's an adaption of a character also named Honey from another fighting game during the era called "Fighting Vipers". As she was never completed for actual game play, her moveset defaults to Knuckles's instead of a unique moveset. It's also work noting that due to the glitches of her programming one of her eyes is always looking at the camera.
And yes, Fang just has plain ears with no inner portion. It's a stylistic choice on Sonic Team's part, and is shown that way on every Sonic Team produced product. Comics are another matter. I'm quite sure in the old Archie comics he had no inner ears either, recalling things such as the Super Sonic special.
