Good to see some real work, well done. We have an art school here in Sydney you would love to see, very traditional, the easels are heritage listed.

Its a wonderful method for training your eye to accuracy. Many traditional academic artists have used it over the years to learn to draw and see the planes of the figure!

Accuracy and perspective are not my strong points unfortunately - something I have always really struggled with, and to that end, I tend to do fantasy or surreal art where those things are overruled in some way. However, there are times when I do like to do some scenery painting, but as I said previously, I've really lost it! I sold or passed on all the best artwork I ever did long time ago!

They are fun to work on when I just have an hour or two to be creative and dont want to get all the paints out, not to mention they are a wonderful way to train and keep the eye accurate about judging measurements and proportions.

Thank you... its is drawn from a series of plates that they teach academic sight size drawing from.

For those of you that have asked... this drawng is part of the traditional way of teaching academic drawing established through a series of plates. These plates were created by Bargue as a way of teaching the eye to evolve to a high degree of accuracy. Students would copy the whole series of plates via a technique called sight-size which produces very accurate drawings when done correctly. The goal is to rain your eye to 1/8" accuracy.

The book can be purchased at the Dahesh museum and I would recommend it to any student wishing to train there eye to a higher level of accuracy. (Even Picasso did these academic drawings)

Your work just gets better and better.

This is a great piece. Really sculptural to look at. I love how you've suggested the highlights, and the accuracy of observation in the shadows.

Like your contemplative piece, I really admire your ability to render that internal 'glow' that healthy skin has. The way the highlights fall not only on the top surfaces, but also underneath the finger and thumb, where light is reflected by the nearby surfaces.

Its really beautiful.

You're welcome! I wish I had more of these drawing lessons back in the days in art school - but I was studying garphic-design and the drawing-courses were very limited ...

Very nice presentation of traditional media that you've demonstrated through your fine skill and tonal appearance in a simple and captivitating use of shading. The model of the arm and shading have been combined excellently and has definatly presented the skill you hold within your work.

Keep it up.
