Description A random shot taken in Valmiera, Latvia. The cat was hunting something and I got lucky and got this shot while he(?) was concentrating.

Cat's real colors are Black, Yellow, Brown.

I usually don't critique photos because I absolutely love traditional art and I find it easier to judge. I may not say the right terms, but this picture really caught my eye. I think that if it were in color it wouldn't have the same effect; the fact that you can't see the full face of the cat gives the photo some suspense, as if he was actually hiding. It's also balanced extremely well. On the left side the cat's fur is lighter and his eye is shown clearly, but on the right, the face is darker and shaded. I see photos of cats all the time but this one shows one of their many personalities. Well done!

Normally, I don't look at photography, but for this cat, I make a great exception. By creating this in black and white, you enhance the "real" coloration of the cat, and bring the eyes into sharper focus. Looking to the right, the viewer is then prompted to wonder what the cat is after. Is it a rodent, someone's shoe lace, a laser pointer? You can't tell from the eye's reflection, and that I think is a great thing. What would have been interesting would have been able to see more of this sneaky feline; perhaps the arch of it's back when pouncing, the raised rump when stalking, or some other aspect of the cat's behavior. But in all, a truely spectacular piece from a talented photographer.

I was amazed by everything in the picture. I love how the eyes aren't looking directly at the camera. Lucky shot I guess. It is beautiful and maybe you should try for a newspaper photographer because you are so good at what you do. This is a very beautiful cat by the way. I have a cat that looks just like her. I also like how you only captured the top part of the head, do you have posing cats? Truly beautiful I would give you a rating of ten out of ten, wish I could take photos like this.

Hmm, well the cat definetly looks at a good angle, but maybe
a bit too close? Like some people as for me for an example want to see the background, so the cat can make himself stand out more. The cat's eyes are a little... off to the side, as in he's not looking straight at you I don't think. If he is, maybe it's my eyes but, the cat overall has a nice view, ir just needs a little touch to the background. Maybe if the cat is looking at you, we can get a better view, it's nice.

The cat’s eyes direction here make it possible to first look at the picture without feeling „sprung on“ and following its glance to the border. Because there is the picture’s cut, a suspense comes on and undermines the picture’s title: „On the haunt“ strengthfully.
The animal itself has a different color, so with greying it, the contrast is much more supported and reminds me of some irreality, fantasy, contributing this image’s beauty.
Also the beauty is increased by the very detailed photographing of the hair and of the eyes with their little sparkling, building up a very fine and „mysterious“ picture e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>.

Wow!! That is a stunning cat! I have tried so many times to get a cat to focus for long enough like this. The eyes are excellent, in pin point focus, brill! The glance is a perfect one, just like others have said, its a mischeif one. I think it could be in any shade of colour too although this cat does have beautiful colouring, however, black and white gives a big impact on the veiwer. You used a great lens for this picture, however if you were to do this picture again I would focus the nose a tad more. Overall excellent!!

"Devious" is definitely the first word that came to mind when taking this photo in as a whole. And let me just say thank you for having the eyes perfectly in focus, and as a fellow photographer, I can appreciate how hard it is to get a cat to sit still long enough to let you get such a wonderful close up.
You managed to capture everything that is the feline species in a single shot. The shifted glace to the left is so "what havoc can I be causing?" and it's perfect.
The only thing I would say is that I think I would have liked to see this in color simply because based on what I can tell, this cat has very beautiful coloring.
Very wonderful work; simply stunning.

The internet is full of cat photos, and I'm admittedly not a big cat person, but despite all of that this is truly an original piece. I love that it's treated the way a portrait of a person might be. It's emotive, with great texture and contrast. Actually, it almost feels like it's some kind of other worldly creature. Incredible work! I have no idea how you got the shot, especially as I can't even see a reflection in the cat's eyes. I wish the nose were a tiny bit sharper, perhaps, but that was the only thing I could think of and frankly I'm not even completely committed to that opinion e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

I love the cat's expression you've captured in this photo - especially the fierce concentrating eyes e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> I also really like how this is in black and white because it draws more attention to the cat's features - like fur and eyes and I think the contrast between different patches of fur look really good too.

This must've been quite a hard shot to take, if I tried, the cat would probably have run away. I think this picture looks in the moment - if that makes any sense - because whenever I see this, I always think the cat is just about to pounce.

Overall, this is a stunning shot and an adorable one too :3 You deserve the DD!

It's just too adorable. It reminds me of a stray cat that I take care of. When I saw this picture, my first reaction was "Aww!". I especially like the angle. When I try to take pictures of cats like this, they usually run away. It must've been hard to get close to the cat like that and get that picture. Amazing. I also like how it's black and white. Color pictures are just fine, I'm just saying that this picture looks really cool being black and white. Overall, I love it.

A cat has more to life than us, if a cat is a colour from the list below, it's this warrior cat:

Brown/red = Tigerstar- mean but only cares for power
Brown/dark yellow = Lionheart - kind and takes his toll
Yellow/ bright ginger/ orange = Firestar - caring and has loytalty to his clan
Dark ginger/ brown = Squirrelflight courageous but to thinks they know it all
Brown/ light brown = Leafpool - quiet and kind, has problems and sometimes tries to hide them

These are for you cats' sake, if they have a colour from the above, keep an eye on them, L O L S!

This is definitely a rare kind of shot. Takes a great eye and a quick one to capture a moment like this especially with a cat. I love the way the light and shadow plays on its face. The eyes are stunning and set off the whole photo. You can see the hunt in its eyes which to me is the essence of what makes this photo so stunning and high quality. You captured just the right angle and quickly, too, as anyone who knows about photography would agree with that. I personally know how hard it is to capture any animal shots especially a cat on the hunt ready to pounce in a second. The photo is so well captured that you wouldn't even need a description to say what is going on. All elements of this are so rare that I am amazed I am looking at this shot. Very well done and a awesome eye for capturing! It says a lot about your skills. I will be definitely watching your work. A good eye makes a great photographer.

I'm not the best at critiques, but let's give it a shot. I really like how this came out. Its very clear and easy to tell that it's a cat. I like how the black and white makes it "pop out" as if he was looking at something. It is very original and it has a clear facial shot (let's say). I agree with other deviants that the cat is "Cute" and it has an "impressive shot". It's a nice piece of work and I really don't have anything else to say except to keep working hard. ~ Shayminsayz on deviantART.

So beautiful. It is simple, but so incredibly beautiful. You AMAZE me with cat-capturing abilities. It is the most impressive capturing! The blurry noes, ears, and how you you ONLY got the cat, not the rest of the picture (unlike SOMEONE *ahem* ME). It looks deep and sophisticated. I love the look of the cat. The way his/her eyes are looking away.... FABULOUS! This has to be one of your BEST. And did i mention how utterly gorgeous this picture is? Please post more! It must of been SO amazing in color!
Some questions...

This image is have no orginality many people are taking shots of their own animals and i find it very sad and boring. The technique is quite bad and why did you take off the nice colours? Now it looks like the cat is mad and having a bad time actually. The vision was not that good either beacuse i think it is not fair for being a good quality picture. If you ask me i've seen better photos and images and i think it is wrong to do something like this. Good luck next time can i say actually yes

i really like this picture because it is clear, its simple, its interesting, it tells a story.
the black and white make it stand out. its amazing to stare at and if i could i could stare at it all day.
maybe you could do this one again but in colour and or have one side of its face in black and white and the other side in colour.
i can see emotion in the cats eyes.
what i like most of all is it looks like its staring right at me
you have done a great job and i am looking forward to your future photographs.

I find this picture simply amazing! <3
I really get how hard it is to get a good shot of a cat.
I do have one myself and he never can sit still for a photo.
Also I really love the effect of black and white. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/> Another thing I like is the perspective. The angle you caught the cat at is great, though it is zoomed in just a bit too much because you can't see his mouth. I know it would have been a nice feature to have in the picture, but I bet it was hard enough to get this shot. It is still very good in my opinion!

the image is amazing, and the overall effect of the black and white contrast makes it even better, although only two things could have made this image more outstanding then it is, and that would have been if the cats focus had been on the lends of the camera. if the cats eyes were centered towards the lends the image would be even more fantastic.
and secondly, if the nose of the cat were in more focus it would have put a more intimate sense to the photo. the image is actually pretty amazing, being about to get that up close it pretty talented

I have to say this is stunning! The concentration in the look of the cats eyes are very rare and hard to catch, and seeing that you did such a fabulous job of getting this is amazing! The black and white add a dramatic feel to the picture, and with the buildings reflected in his(?) eyes add a sort of journey he's gone on. Also the fact that you did not capture/include the body adds a sense of unique mystery.

The eyes are slitted and it really does look like the cat is out to hunt something. The black and white just adds mystery, and i can't get enough of it. I also love how you can see the individual hairs on the cat, and the cat itself's colors are just beautiful. You did an excellent job, and i really do enjoy this picture immensely. This picture really grabbed me attention. It shows the emotion perfectly! Having cats my self, I understand how hard it is to get them to "pose" for pictures, this is amazing! Also, the perspective is at just the right angle, had you shot it from anywhere else the photograph would lose all its effect.

Very beatiful. at first, i thought u might have drawn this, and i was like, how did he get the eyes to shine??? yes, you got very lucky. most cats dont concentrate for more than a minute or two . i love the way you took this shot, up close, so you can see his(?) facial expresstion. i also love the way it was taken or modified to be in black and white, it makes it that much more stupendous. i would also like to say that, how you caught him looking to his right (our left ), makes this picture perfect. by far, the best one ive seen you do yet!!! in pictures, ofcourse.
