The new DeviantART, Inc. More social, more connected.The old Deviantart was a community of unformatted individuals who think they are creative, going in all direction, so a deconstruction of the previous identity is necessary to force up changes into people's minds.
Being different than other sites is pointless, originality leads to a lack of cohesion and complexities, while the goal is to unify everything in the end. To achieve the perfect societal holism in matter of visual concept and flat design is what must inspire all, to fit in the modern world. The previous logo was too fussed, screaming pretentious, and this is not right at all.
Individualism who deviate is the enemy that must be fought in an all-connected world.
The new deviantart is now fitting like every other website and corporations from the new world we are building. Asking people's opinions is counterproductive, they are just users.

some comments below that i read and that find brilliance in this logo remind me of those scripts when someone makes a passionate splash of paint all over the wall and make a mess, then a professional comes and says its the greatest art ever made, clever, brilliant, finding something in it that even the author on their own didn't xD i seriously don't know whether such concepts encourage imagination, or devalue it. yes, i don't like how today logos strive thowards over-simplicity, for example if i owned a tv station, i'd make it's logo something amazing.. but tv stations today reduce them more and more to transparent white watermarks.. much like their program, uninspired and without passion and originality, i guess. it is not true also that we can't be environment friendly and have complex logos.. its a way of life. logos were way too limited even before with only some that stood out with their colors and composition.. its kind of how people use black to hide the stains, people actually think black looks perfect, because they hardly see colors used.. in the right way.

A simplistic logo doesn't mean that it's not creative or that it's not well-thought out. Look at amazon's logo or the abc channel logo for example. They're both simplistic but successful, that's why they haven't been changed.

A logo with a lot of details fits in certain occasions, but it definitely wouldn't work for DA in my opinion.Β

well, i don't like this logo too much. simplicity ok, but a tv logo is more then a watermark for example.. is it? deviantart is an artist site and the current logo just doesn't seam like art. but ok, i suppose everything can be called art, art is free.. and thats ok. but this logo in my opinion, has nothing to do with deviantart, except for the green color, perhaps. a notepad with some scribbles on it could work, or want simplicity? a white rectangle with some doodly colored lines and a simple outline so it doesn't blend in the background. i simply see no vission in this. but it doesn't bother me much, i hope the owners know what they're doing, its their site not mine. but one should not be afraid to express their vission because the crowd may not like it, but should be who they are and take it high. i have nothing against simplicity, but against lack of vission, spirit, passion, creativity, expression..

and it's for everything. the art of design is dying.
technology also tends to absurd simplicity in detriment of quality.
music, writings... cartoons, so many things are bending to the cheap simplicity and acceptance of mediocre, because complexity and quality has a cost. everything in this world becomes commercial and that's why this capital-social idiocracy, the idea of pricing everything that exist ruins everything. inclusing for artists who create great paintings for free, or for their own enjoyment, these are the first who gets eliminated.
technology is stangating, the only domain people innovates are built on technology, microprocessors and radio that have merely progressed since a decade. software gets more bloated with spyware, and the processors are overclocked to make that extra workload feels invisible, but the devices itselves remains the same.
economy is the problem.
music, politics, ideas, food. everything is getting bland. being a simpleton like everyone. not smoking, non-drinking, apatride, apolitical, atheist, non-knowledgeable asexual is the definition of the perfect man-consumer of the future.

just because the world is so big doesn't mean we have to adapt to it. accepting the end brings us nothing at all. changes come from somewhere. we are the change too. nothing is dying. infinity of possibilities lives inside me and inside any artist with a vission. i don't smoke or drink but not because someone forbids me but because i chose so myself, politics i like as much as programming in windows api or equalent but when there is no other way i sadly have to deal with that too ( : and importantly, money doesn't decide the value of the empty paper, its the strength of the artist's vission... nothing will die if we ourselves, don't change. beleiving in bad things its not worth anything, there is only one option and that is to live. to live in a world of supressed life betraying my own soul, is not an option. so i have not much to worry about because i know in the end, everything will be alright. i beleive in myself and everything that is good. so 'lets see what will happen' ( :
