Description
This is one of two pieces done of the Skeksis. I have not done anything beyond sketches for the third piece. I read the novel and anything else of the movie The Dark Crystal. In doing so I learned a great deal about the background of the world of the Dark Crystal. The Skeksis had three political fractions among themselves. This one is the religous one with skek Zok the Ritual Guardian or High Priest, skek Ok the Scroll Keeper and skek Shod the Treasurer.I've always thought the Skeksis were the most interesting part of the mythos of the Dark Crystal and also the most interesting characters.
This piece was used with an ordinary writing pen.

Ekt the Ornamentalist is my favorite. I use to love to dress fancy till my department at work went all uniform.
At one time I wished they did figures of all the Skeksis but I wouldn't be able to afford it. . .

I haven't heard much about the new movie, except that it's to be animated, which is kind of a shame...I doubt if it can top the original.

Animated?! I figure with Henson studios it would be with puppets. Don't see much with puppets anymore. A little which is nice so the actors are not reacting to nothing there.
Not all sequels top the original. I only hope its good for as long as I've been hearing about this movie for who knows how long!

I love the Skeksis out of all the other characters! My sister thinks I'm a freak of nature for that, but who cares! You gotta love them.

I also enjoy the Skeksis of all the others as well. They seem to be the most interesting. I can't say why I love them more than the others.
Don't ask me why I never got around to SkekSil's party. Some strange artist block came over me that just wouldn't let me draw them. . .

I too have my faves of Skek-Ekt and Skek-Sil.
Since you too seem to be on who is who of the Skeksis, question for you if you can answer it and I realize its not that important: I've read both the novel and watched the movie. Who is in which party? 1)Skek-Ayuk in Chamberlain's party with Ekt and Skek-Ok in Skek-Zok's party or 2) is it Skek-Ayuk with Skek-Zok's and Skek-Ok with Skek-Sil's party? I realize this is minor detail but I've seen the novel go with #1 but there is hints of #2 in the movie. Its a detail I've thought on and off for years. Of course the argument is that Skeksis change parties whenever it serves them best.

I just want to ask you: where did you find the book? I was looking for it everywhere, but I did find anything TT_TT. I also tried to download it, only to discover that the book was.... in italian!

I did a quick search on Amazon.com and found World of the Dark Crystal book there but not from Amazon (?) but from sellers. Prices vary. I bought my World of Dark Crystal second print from a place called Bud Plant. I know they have a website and they sell books, comics, prints and other unique stuff. I would try and find that place and see if they have any more. They got good prices but its been years since I've ordered from them. I got my first print of World years before that. . .if I knew know what I know then I would have saved myself the money. Quite costly. Really. . . back then on 1st print.
I didn't search for the other books of the Dark Crystal which the novel which goes deeper into society and personalities of the Skeksis, and also the Making of the Dark Crystal which is also very neat. The novel I have an extra of (I think) but I found that at a used book store.
I have heard that a new movie fo the Dark Crystal is being made so therefore all the above books will be reprinted or something I bet.

I guess I'll just have to wait a little while (after hearing all these good opinions, I'd love to get myself a copy): I only hope that the sequel will come out in may just as it's planned. I also hope that they'll release the trailer, let's say, half a year before the movie premiere.
BTW., have you heard that there's going to be a cartoon prequel of Dark Crystal?

I once heard a rumor about a cartoon prequel. I haven't really kept up on the latest news on Dark Crystal. I know about the manga coming out.
I know for Transformers that a trailer was released last year around September and then a much much better trailer on December 20th and the movie is coming out this July 4th.
I'm sure this time around and especially with the fanbase that there will be more merchandising for Dark Crystal.

Dave Goelz is in it too. I think he was the original performer of the General. I took a look at the link you sent. I would be happy too if Skek Tek came back. I guess that might be hard considering how he left unless he became something spectral. . .

You might find it at a used bookstore, Amazon.com, request at the local library. . .only top ways I know of to get that book. I got lucky and found mine at a used bookstore.
All the Skeksis got more indepth in the novel which I liked about the novel and put a lot of what they thought of each other and their relationships to one another. I agree about Skeksis like Skek Shod, Skek Ekt and a few others that you had to guess about more.

Awesome artwork! The Skeksis are always my favorite fantasy creatures. You drew skekZok so lovely. I always like that one, he's always so calm, he don't want to fight with the Skeksis, even they call him "spithead" he don't attacks them for that. I hope you draw more of them in the future, especially of skekZok and skekTek. Well I think skekOk is also cute anyway. He don't care anything around him, only mumbled to himself.

The Skeksis were always mine too. I've been meaning to draw the Chamberlain's political party but just haven't gotten around to it.
These are also my husband's fave pieces too.
I have both the novel which goes more in depth of the Skeksis' social order and attitudes and also the artbook, The World of the Dark Crystal. Its been reprinted with new pictures and stuff. Also I had to watch the cut scenes of the Skeksis on the DVD of the Emperor's funeral.
Supposedly in the new movie being made, Power of the Dark Crystal the Skeksis are suppose to reappear.

Yes there are books! There is the novel which has a lot of background stuff about the characters. I don't know how hard it is to find. The World of the Dark Crystal has become easier to find and obtain over the past couple of years cause it went back to second printing. That really reduced the price of the first printing book. Use to be quite a bit now you can find one for less than $50. I think the second printing is about $30 and it has more in it than first printing. It has a booklet that is in the book cover and has a couple of photos and a few words from Brian Froud in the intro. Lots of artwork in World by Froud. World was made to be a insight into the world that Henson was creating by making it into a history book for the World of the Dark Crystal. Very good book. Discusses each of the mystics (urRu) and Skeksis along with what their names are and so forth. World and the novel is where I learned of the political fractions and their interactions with each other along with more info on the Emperor.
At one point probably when I did these I really studied Dark Crystal. I was obsessed. Watched the deleted scenes a lot.
