Description Just wanted to add a couple better pics of the stained glass Lament Configuration lamp I did last year. I believe it comes out to ~305 pieces of glass and is 8" wide by 10" tall.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

This is an amazingly intricate work of art. It is an excellent homage to the prop that inspired it: and even without knowing the title I made the connection immediately. Further, it is a fine example of the craft of stained glass: excellent lines, delicate cut-work, and a lovely realization of a difficult subject to capture in this medium.

Vision: The artist most certainly did what they set out to do, and did it well. Designing and constructing this was not easy, and took more than a casual desire to see it through to manifestation. Well created indeed!

Originality: This is an unusual prop to see modeled at all, in any medium, let alone one that requires such fine work and an eye for detail. Catching the cube in its partially opened state especially puts the art in the 5-star category!

Technique: This is where my own experience with stained glass specifically and soldering in general gives a tiny drop of 0.5 star: there are several instances in the piece of lumpy and uneven joins, and I'm only counting the ones on large, flat surfaces. It's a nitpick only another glass artisan is likely to make, but there it is. It's a minor thing, though, compared to the incredible intricacy of the piece as a whole!

Impact: this is the one spot where one of the design choices for this piece didn't quite work for me: that it is all in black and white. The original piece is all dark brown and brass, which can be tricky to do well in glass - but not significantly trickier than doing it at all. I admit to being something of a prop purist, too, so to be blunt there's a little part of me that feels let down by the color choices, which reduces (for me) its impact by a full star. I still love it, though, and wouldn't hesitate to add it to my collection (hoping there's a way to make it into a lamp!)

That's it. Thanks for posting such a nice picture! This really is amazing.

Thank you so much for my first critique! The entire reason I posted work on Deviant Art was exactly in the hopes of getting feedback from other glass artists. I'm slowly improving with every piece and learning a bit more everyday As I do, I look forward to mastering the basics that I still struggle with, while seeking out ever more challenging pieces. Thank you again for taking the time, I'm definitely taking this to heart.

You are most welcome! I'm glad my thoughts on the piece were well received. I haven't done much sculptural stuff myself - mostly window pieces - but I definitely appreciate the challenge of them.

Good luck with your future pieces. I look forward to seeing more posted!
