More Hiccup, and Toothless.... And Astrid!FYI, I don't like Astrid's design, I just want to FIX IT. Sorry, but skulls, really? It doesn't feel viking like... She really looks like what she is, a quickly added in character. Her outfit seems to clash with all the other viking outfits. It just... didn't feel right. If they wanted her to stand out, this was the wrong way to do so.
Her hair bothers me too, as well as that headband that does nothing... But I dunno, the way I drew it here seems to be fine... Don't know why.
I am also bothered by the fact that all the vikings wear HELMETS but Hiccup and Astrid... So Helmet-less-ness will be in order to right this odd balance.
And I attempted Snotlout for the heck of it... I kind of don't like using reference! Can you tell? HAHAHAHA OTL

Srsly, when I first watched it, I just notice only Astrid and Hiccup didn't wear their helmets other than their gang (well except Hiccup's but only wear ONCE LOL)

Yeah, Astrid was (most likely) deliberately named differently and designed differently to stand out as the Love Interest. She was meant to be more attractive from the beginning. No one stood a chance against that.

The headband is actually something called a kransen, what was historically a Viking sign of maidenhood. Viking women would give them up when they got married. So it did nothing for her hair, but it did have a symbolic purpose.

Well guys didn't wear them, so that'd just leave Ruffnut, and I figure they didn't go for one for her just to make them distinct. It's a kind of traditional thing so maybe Astrid just has a more traditional family.

Maybe... However it's hard to say since none of the characters really have background at this point except for Hiccup and stuff...

Given how little time the film makers actually had for this film (I read somewhere they had a matter of months and not a few years like it normally takes for a CG film), the total lack of background isn't all that surprising.
Hopefully with the sequel out in a couple of years, they'll be able to delve more into that.

Yes, and the reason for the lack of time is because they got the two directors in and they overhauled the entire story and rewrote it from what I understand. But it was a good rewrite from the book to movie.
