It's the Japanese name, the full Japanese name is Naruga Kuruga. This was done well before an English name was revealed.

Naruga Kuruga is too long to fit, the titles are limited to about 30 characters.
Naruga is perfectly understandable, at the time it was exactly how everyone would refer to the monster whether they could read japanese or not and even now, it is perfectly understandable since Nargacuga is basically how a japanese person would pronounce it but spelt in a more english way.
Theres no need to go grammar nazi when the title is the best i could do at the time and Nargacuga is still too long to fit without abbreviating the title.

For some reason, I've always had respect for the Narga. With, say, Rathalos it's like "Ha! Not so smart now are you?!", whereas with Narga it's like "Well fought".

It may be that when fighting Naruga, i find i have to think more and be more alert about dodging because they're more unpredictable, and with attacking, i wouldn't chance if i didnt have a big enough openning. Wheras with Rathalos, i know where to be to be safe from its attacks and when to attack myself, even if i might be a bit late. I use greatsword for both and mainly go for lv2-3 charges on their heads, might be different for other weapons but that's how i feel when fighting these monsters.
