Description Mother Mary, broken and pale
You're not anything at all
Watching, waiting; withered and frail
You're not anything at all
Visionary; wasted stagnant years
You're not anything at all
Mother Mary, silence your fears
I'm not anything at all

Mother Mary, feel me fade
Hear me whisper, hear me fade
Drifting, waiting, feel me fade
In the distance, far away

I'll send a 16x24 print of this to the first person to correctly identify the lyrics above. Don't bother Googling it. You won't find anything. I checked before I made this offer. But just in case I missed it, you'll also need to describe the song... the tempo, or the instruments used, etc... anything that will show you've actually heard the song.

It's still very beautiful; and what a sad song. I haven't heard it, but it sounds haunting. It certainly complements the delicate puff of snow that seems one shake away from disintegrating.

Well, even though it looks like you googled the lyrics, you definitely did your homework. I had a feeling someone would call my bluff about the lyrics not being online.
If you want a print, wishlist it and let me know after you've done so.

your right I did google it and it was in your page it was very clear you wanted the person to know the song from before so I do not need a print I just liked the challenge that you put out. I used to be known to be able to find hard to find things. This was not hard at all I was hoping it would be harder. by the way I really enjoy your work keep it up my friend and I want to see some images from your D80. I have tried iR and I can not get the colors I want with it .

I'll have a harder challenge in my journal some time in the next few days. I just need to dig a photo out of my archives and post it.

What camera are you trying to do IR with? Not all cameras have good IR capabilities, and the problem could be that your camera isn't suitable for IR. Post processing is also important in getting good colors. I use the channel mixer to get a simple blue toned result, and sometimes I use the individual color channels in curves for more surreal coloring.

My second most recent deviation was taken with my D80, although it's not an IR shot. I still need to get it converted, and then I'll still need to wait until the trees and bushes are nice and green before I can really start using it. It will probably be early to mid May by the time I can start shooting IR with it.

Set the white balance by pointing the camera at some healthy green grass (with the filter on the lens). That should get you a nice clean image.

what am I looking for in setting the white balance in IR

DarknessAndLight In reply to yamiyalo [2008-03-13 00:48:56 +0000 UTC]

You need to set a custom white balance. On the D70 it's called "pre". When the camera's ready to take a reading, just point the lens (with the filter on it) at a patch of green grass. Take a normal exposure, and when the camera is finished taking the reading, you have a custom white balance setting. Use that setting whenever you take IR photos and you should be all set.
