I was out shooting for quite a while that day, but I wasn't really waiting for this shot specifically. I was doing landscapes and macros until the sun went down, then I started working on the sunset shots.

Really, the biggest thing was under-exposing it. After that all you need is a little evening out of the tones and you're set.
