Description My third in the unofficial series of rose and dogtag photos....
This one is a little darker than the rest; it expresses the sadness a little more. Coming Home is bright and hopeful, and Shadow is kind of soft and sweet, but this one is depressing to me. I Brendon...he'll be home mid-April....
About the photo: I spent about 5 minutes adjusting the saturation, sharpness, and brightness.

Thank you so much for a wonderful, fair critique! This is one of my most cherished works, so I love to hear what others think of it. When I was taking these photos, not only was I feeling the emotions but it seemed urgent that I express them this way, not only for myself but for others in a similar situation. Again, thank you so much for your thoughtful words

Beautiful! I like the emotion, the way it seems so morbid for such a romantic symbol.

I love the placement and the way you use the color of the rose and black and white template.

This is inspiring because I have two dog tags worn by a US Ranger KIA a couple years ago in Afghanistan -- they were presented to me by his Mother. I've been pondering different ways to honorably capture these obviously sentimental keepsakes in an image...

Thank you for this.

Regards again for all your help here. I've just been lost in a deep void how to proceed. I've had Benji's dog tags (2, he was wearing 6 when KIA) for about a month, and I've only been able to look at them once. Maybe I will try again since some ideas are now flourishing, thanks to you...

I'm really glad these photos have given you some inspiration; Benji's story has sure given me some. While my husband was one of the lucky ones to make it home, it is never lost on me that there are so many families who didn't get to see their loved ones ever again. Thank you so much for sharing his story.

Thank God your husband is back here, safe & sound. These crazy wars. I just don't get it, everyone loses in the end. The scars are always there, whether you survived on Earth or went to Heaven. I know this from knowing Vets from WWI onward, and my own experience in Desert Storm over 20 years ago. So, give that husband of yours a BIG HUG, eh!

I think I like this one more than "Coming Home" for the darker tones. It leaves the question unanswered - did they make it back home?

The effectiveness of these photos has a lot to do with the focus. I get an interesting sense of depth here and the background is even darker this time. some weird melancholy 'happy to be sad', or even more extreme 'happy to be dead' feeling is definitely coming out of this one when i look at it. oh well, I come into it with a completely empty mind and that's what i get lol. the focus on the wood grain really makes me feel that table under my fingertips.

I think this is my favorite in this series, because it so conveys how I feel right now. I look at it as me at this point in my life. Like you said, 'happy to be sad.' I have so many mixed emotions, with part of me being happier than I've ever been and part of me being sadder than I've ever been. I'm crazy, I know, but whatever. I still love this photo
