As an Elf this year, this was done as part of 's holiday gift-giving by myself (=DarlingMionette ). It was painted entirely in Paint Tool SAI. Merry Christmas!

You are definitely talented. And the character looks perfect. The way you shade it, skin tones, it's amazing.
But, and I hope you won't get this wrong because I admire your work and I'm your long time watcher on my other account, I think the background stands out too much.
It feels, at least to me, like character became a negative space and background attracts more attention which probably you didn't do on purpose.
Also I can see that you did background on a different layer from character and unless you soft it and blend it around the edges it will add more to the background-character attention battle.
I too have problem with backgrounds so I know how it feels when you are lost and don't know what to do with that unimportant space behind.
Again I'm sorry for saying so much but I believe that like me you want to improve and wouldn't mind if someone objectively points out things that don't work out.
And I'm really sorry if you don't like when people critique your artwork.

Thank you for the crit, although I didn't ask for one. Generally if I want a crit, I'll ask. No offense to you, but once I've completed a piece I don't go back and edit it, so a crit doesn't do me a lot of good. This was part of a charity project where I did a lot of requested portraits over a very short amount of time. Thanks for commenting though.

I don't go back and edit the piece either so I would never comment for that reason, but I've seen similar trend in few other pieces you did.
The reason I decided to comment is because you should be aware of it if you already haven't.
I don't want your amazing portraits to be overshadowed by attention-grabbing background.
I'm pretty sure you can make (or learn to make) simple backgrounds very fast.
I'm far from being an expert on it like I've already mentioned, but safe method seems to be less saturated colors and shadow and light variation in accordance with a light source's position.

Absolutely perfect, it looks almost like a photograph. The texture of the background, the individual strand of hair, and the flawless skin show just how much work you put into it. It makes me want to work digitally more.

THis is a stunning piece, really! Someone I know keeps claiming that SAI is only god for a pure manga-sytle and useless for anything remotely realistc - I am glad I can prove him wrong with your work!

I have to say that since I started watching you you have improved SO MUCH, and I didnt even really start watching you all that long ago. The effort you put in really shows, and even though I dont know you in person and my opinion might not mean very much Im really proud of you and how far you have come. This face is so animated and I can feel the emotion there which wasnt so clear in some of your earlier works. You deserve every bit of praise, work, or just anything good that comes your way
On a side note your journals always make me laugh and I love to read them. Thank you for writing so many
