So, Duamutef, Wepwawet, Anubis and Anput...but who's the second-to-right one?

👍: 1 ⏩: 1

DarrenPepper In reply to HeruAnubisSolares [2016-08-30 21:23:42 +0000 UTC]

It goes Duamutef, Wepwawet, Anubis, Sed and Hathor holding an Anubis mask.

I thought that was Anput, not Hathor

Also weren't Wepwawet and Sed the same god?

there is one that is easier to know it's not Anubis. The female version of him XD

and the guy says "look, I get paid by the hour, so its cool if Anubis wants to take his time getting over here to sign for this package."

seriously, this is fantastic work, and a sobering reminder of what I'd forgotten: just how many jackal-headed neteru there were.

Weird, random question but any of the gods are currently dating or in a romantic relationship? Besides Isis and Osiris? Do you also secretly ship some of them?

I see you have Anput! YAY! Anubis and Wepwawet, but I don't know the other two.
I think Sed is associated with the jackal. Argh! I should know this!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarrenPepper In reply to ChaosEmpress [2016-06-27 12:07:12 +0000 UTC]

You’ve actually come quite close. From Left to Right, Duamutef, Wepwawet, Anubis, Sed (who may or may not be an earlier incarnation of Wepwawet). You of course also have Hathor, not sure why she is there, she might just be standing in for Anput.

I see there's a woman. Did Egyptians consider women equal to men?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Lyndale1608 In reply to sakpalamey [2016-07-02 14:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Maybe not exactly equal, but as worthy as men, yes. They didn't expect women to go to war or be stone masons or whatever, but they were valued as equally important members of society. Women could own land, or property, could learn and do as they chose (within the law, and reason, of course) and pregnant women were considered to be very important, the fact they were carrying a child made them closer to the powers of creation and the Gods. A pregnant woman could even be asked for her blessing, similar to the (relatively) modern idea of shaking a chimney sweeps hand for good luck.

elehaya In reply to sakpalamey [2016-06-27 03:56:52 +0000 UTC]

more then other anciant high cultures did, less then we do today I would say.
Exaples: there are only about 5 we know  about  (Hatshepsut  & Kleopatra beeing the most famos ones, Nitokris , Nefrusobek  and Tausret other ones)
It was possible for woman for example to learn how to read and write but mostly the son was chosen over her. But the goddes Isis was one of the most popular gods that existed back then. Her cult even was worshiped in rome. Also they could be heirs, pass on things to others and decide without a (male) guardian, on the other hand it was rare to find a woman in the higher hirarchy.

Oh okay, I was getting concerned and wondering just how many jackal-headed gods there were.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TechouNoPenki In reply to SlingBlade87 [2016-06-24 20:09:37 +0000 UTC]

There's only one Jackal Headed God which is Anubis. Wepwawet is actually a wolf or dog deity but not that of a jackal. Egyptians just made all dogs and jackals look alike but with different colors to distinguish them.

SlingBlade87 In reply to TechouNoPenki [2016-06-24 20:10:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I knew that part about the wolf/dog, it was just confusion over where the others came from.

Leo-Panthera In reply to SlingBlade87 [2016-06-24 20:30:10 +0000 UTC]

I think only Hathor is wearing a mask. You pointed out Anubis and Wepwawet and one of them has to be Duamutef. But the last one ? Mhhh...
