Thanks, this was one of the more interesting places I have spent a few days. There was so much going on out there, we were up on around the 8th floor of a hotel in what was called the "Business District" of Nairobi, but well, yeah, there were a lot of businesses around, but not of the high-rise variety, more like shanties and shacks down at street level and all this other life going on up on the roof.
There's something about traveling through places of the world that a lot of travelers don't visit, so much more life and things of interest

Wow! What a shot. I had to look at this for quite a while to really understand what I was seeing. It almost looks like a photo manip.....very cool!

We spent a few days at this hotel, it was listed as being in the "Business District" of Nairobi... it fronted onto a triangular roundabout with wrecked cars around it, there were a few mechanical businesses there...the facade of the hotel that was advertised was shown from the 3rd floor up, which was very modern looking... but the road and the area around was very dusty with open-drains... the entrance was up a metal flight of stairs, where a security guard sat with a metal locking gate to get further into the hotel...we were up near the top floor...this is the view from the room. Directly down below the hotel was an assortment of businesses, food sellers, phone merchants, mechanical/spray painting, etc... this shot looks across over the top of those businesses to the rooftops of some of the nearby buildings, behind them is a stream, not very clean, where all those fires are burning in the piles of rubbish.. there were also a large variety of other businesses and houses across the stream, lots of people always doing something... the kids down the bottom were swinging around having fun, the ladies up the back were chatting and drinking coffee, some time after this, the men came up and were talking and smoking, then they went back down again and the ladies and the kids came back up.

I think that is why I can't really limit myself to one style of shooting. I see a lot of photographers that shoot primarily one style and whilst a lot of them are excellent at what they do, I would be bored very quickly if I was just shooting the same things over and over as so many of them seem to constantly be doing.
Street / Travel / Portrait shooting in not-so-traveled places I feel holds a lot more interest as there can be so much to see in the one image, not just some person draped over a lounge/chair/in a doorway etc etc

It can be a little tricky though, as there are some images that I really like, because of what I can see in them, yet on a few occasions, they barely get any response...

Yeap i have the same problem sometimes. Every person individually sees something else.Β
Sometimes it is difficult to point out what you see, it is better for people to find out themselves.Β
If the images make you feel something and speak to you i think it is the most important independently of the response they have.Β
But of course when people appreciate it , it is wonderful!
