Description Meet Schuyler, our shelter adoptee and my furry little shadow. Don't ask what breeds he is. Probably part, "One of those things with giant paws, and a boxful of extra dewclaws." Is perhaps too sweet for his own good. Well, to me, anyway. He still regards everybody else as a potential Public Enemy No. 1.

I have always known, throughout my entire life, that if you raise a dog from puppyhood---or in your case, bond with a rescued dog,--- that dog will be the best friend you will ever EVER have. It will be loyal, fiercely protective, terribly sad when you leave and joyously happy when you return. Always longing forΒ  your company and attention, just wanting to be WITH you. Never argue with you, never contradict you, wanting only to please you, or provide comfort in your own times of trouble. The bonding between a man (or woman) and his dog is one of the most heartfelt splendid living experiences of our short sojourn here on Earth. And although this may not be apparent day to day, you will know how heart-rending it is should your companion die from accident or old age.... I watched my dog being born when I was six years old, and raised her and trained her for the next 14 years until she died having developed cancer, and that was a day when the wind left my sails, let me tell ya....

Ric, this is going to be neatly formatted and printed out, and it is going straight up on my message board. He bonded with me right from Day 1 (to the unfortunate exclusion of everyone else), and how he treats me like I'm his whole world. I look forward to the life ahead that we have together.
