UPDATE: Filled in the placeholder images in page 31; was supposed to help draw the scene, but it's been too long due to her circumstances (internet + financial I imagine) that I actually stayed up for 2 hours editing Cyril and Vince in myself. Hopefully it still conveys Cyril's maniacal mindset trying to smash Vince during this sparring session. Original image with placeholder here .
Somewhat a Star Wars theme going on here; you're probably wondering why Cyril is dressed like Rey from Star Wars (end of Force Awakens, meeting Luke in Last Jedi version). Since Cyril is still a beginner and I modeled chapter 6's training montage after a fan made Last Jedi training montage , might as well make the weapons/sword training session vs Vince Star Wars themed. Both Rey and Cyril as beginners swing their swords like baseball bats like deranged maniacs with facial expressions to match. Of course, Cyril/Rey is in her sparring gear from when she kickboxed Drew and both are using foam padded training swords; fencing foil might poke out someone's eyes and fencing gear looks expensive for a free martial arts class.
But if you want an in universe explanation, either Cyril randomly had a dark zip up sweater, black shoes, white shirt, and dark pants for today, or she heard Mr. Ren is arranging for a weapons sparring session with foam swords, so she decided to cosplay as Rey as she goes to meet Luke at the end of Force Awakens, in anticipation for Last Jedi. Demon Hunters chapter 6 covers March + April 2017, so Force Awakens was released but Last Jedi wasn't yet. What do you think happened?
Speaking of which, anyone remember from page 1 that Vince is the fencer? Well here he is in his fencing attire. It was hard to show the clash of styles visually with Cyril (street fighting + MMA) vs. Drew (Taekwondo), but Cyril using her wild style in MMA gear contrasts Vince's pseudo fencing approach (he can use his left hand in MMA + street fights, probably closer to straightsword fighting) + his fencing outfit much better. I'm happy with this, anyone else have thoughts on it?
helped with the big panel in page 31, but currently is a placeholder.
Some relevant questions work considering:
- Am I subtly poking at King Arthur's entire schtick being pulling Excalibur from a rock?
- Is anyone going to think they can take on an armed opponent while unarmed themselves after seeing Mr. Ren's lines on these pages?
- On the theme of Star Wars, how does this compare to Obi Wan telling Anakin "This weapon is your life"?
- Ever get surprise poked from behind with a stick before? Curious if anyone has an experience.
