thanks for checking it out, i'm planning to make a whole system of techno soviet items [link] although i'm just doing this for hobby, so not too good at it. obviously i have not learned the art of textures yet so they're all same colored

i'm surprised you mentioned nothing of Soviets or the cold war, which i immediately felt as what was captured by the aesthetics.

it looks like some kind of soviet mecha in a post-apocaplytic american city.

well i just figured that a soviet star would really fit to this setting. i didnt have any more deep thoughts about it acutally
yeah you are right about the post apocalyptic city. i tried to make it look really destroyed

im glad you like it!

nice thinking . it would be nice to become a concept artist...but well im far away from that
yeah thats why i can go crazy and paint these as long im free xD

me be happy as well!

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-08-20 14:59:49 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you're too far away. Depends on the speed you can throw up a good conceptualised sketch based on someone elses parameters, but honestly, your skill producing quality work is high enough. Also, a lot of concept artists, particularly at smaller studios have other skills, like graphic, menu design and texturing and fit into a more general "2d artist" role. I guess the trouble would be getting experience at a smaller studio with specifically concept art skill so that you can get a job at a bigger studio. Ever applied or asked someone in a position to hire what they think of your work? I bet they'd be impressed!

i am working at a 3d effects studio already. i do some concepts and mood paintings besides modeling, texturing and other little tasks. its just that i love painting more than the rest im doing
but i havent applied for a another job yet...since i started working just 2 years ago

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-08-21 02:08:14 +0000 UTC]

Ahh fair enough. Sounds like a great job! What kind of 3d work do you guys do? Games, advertisement, Television? I didn't notice any 3d in your gallery. Mind if I see some?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dasAdam In reply to senor-freebie [2009-08-21 13:32:12 +0000 UTC]

tv commercials
i dont have any own models and for the first projects i worked on i just helped out here and there. the one we are doing now has some decent amount of my modeling in there but we havent finished it yet so i cant show it to you

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-09-08 09:52:23 +0000 UTC]

That is x how many 3d staff?

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-09-08 09:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Ah fair enough. One of the hazards of working in 3d hey? I mean there are the NDA's and then on top of that there is the lengthy periods at each job where your work isn't really just your work. How long does it take to make a typical animated advertisement?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dasAdam In reply to senor-freebie [2009-09-14 09:57:12 +0000 UTC]

well yeah thats how it is

bigger projects take at least one month. smaller ones which include just one or two shots with post effects can be done in 3 weeks time too. it all depends

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-09-14 10:18:11 +0000 UTC]

And how many staff are we talking about?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dasAdam In reply to senor-freebie [2009-09-16 09:20:41 +0000 UTC]

about a core team of 10 with additional freelancers

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

senor-freebie In reply to dasAdam [2009-09-16 09:54:43 +0000 UTC]

Thats a quicker turn around for a smaller staff then I'd expect. If the game development industry was expected to move forward at that pace we'd all be out of jobs within a week.

very nicely done... would like to see some dust and a bit of color to tell the time of day the shadows tell me its sunset or sunrise... also take a look at depth as well

i do agree about the ground being to clean. well it was just a quick painting and i didnt get into detail that much
i guess ive nailed down the time pretty well. its a white bot which turns yellowish because of the setting sun casting the shadows to the east.

thanks for commenting!
