Very quick sketch of a subject I mean to turn into something more developed. The battle of Falkirk (1298) was a victory for Edward I of England over the Scots under William Wallace. The Templar Master Brian de Jay, who was notoriously ruthless and hardly a credit to his Order, fought on the English side. He led the charge after the Scots who fled into the woods. One of the Scots, possibly Wallace himself, turned around and killed the Templar.

Great to see someone actually depict Wallace in a more historically accurate way!!

Wonderful picture!!

Too many people think he wore a Kilt and Kilts would not show up for another 250 years!

Nice movement and depth. The one guy in the left foreground has got a real horseface, though

backhanded swing holding the very end of that ax handle?, poor bastard probably put his back out, but hey as long as the saxon went with it I suppose it worked out well.

Very nice work, I especially like the trees and horses.

It's always so lovely to see any art where the Scots army and Wallace are rendered in proper garb. Wasn't he the last English Templar Master? He appears to have some connection to the de Jay family of Bedston, Salop.

I think Brian de Jay was the second last master of England. The last was Willima de la More, who died in prison after refusing to admit to the heresy charges made against the Templars.
