Description
Very long exposure of a very distant storm. I usually don't exceed around 40 seconds; this one is 180 seconds and a bit. The storm was probably 250km away by this point, according to the weather radar we were watching at the time. This is also fully zoomed in on my 14-45mm lens, which is something I never do (mostly because it's impossible to focus in the dark).I may try this again some time.

work out how to manually focus the thing and set it to infinity. I like the concetrated effect and multiple strikes. Maybe stop down another stop and go for 3 minutes. This all from your front porch right? Please tell me you are shooting RAW for the best quality?

Almost my front porch. This was the first time I've tried such a long exposure for lightning, it's certainly something I'll experiment more with in future.
Oh, yeah. Almost always RAW. Only time I shoot in jpeg is if there's a storm in the daylight, because I need to be able to take 1,000+ photos to get a good enough chance at capturing lightning, and I don't have a pocket full of CF cards.

I jumped on the radar when we finished up and that storm was just about to hit St George and was 164k's away! (as the crow flies) That's just nuts lol!
