Description I reworked my previous work: [link]
I tried to get a better composition and a stronger image, with a more realistic feeling.
Thank you guys for all the tips

Render as 4k in vue in 16hours for greater quality.

Edit: The Quadwing has been partially remodelled/modified so the guns/missiles/thruster are in the right direction.

I never tried to make a very original work with this one... I focused on getting a good compostition and getting a qualitative result with the tools I have at hand.

Thank you very much for your critique.

I can't take any credit for the byzanthin arvhitecture, they're commercial 3d models (except for the landing platform)

Your artwork is very stunning and beautiful. The intricate details such as the cracks and grooves in the rocks give additional oomph and flare to the realism of the piece. The structures and architectural design look very natural and their placement and positioning is well thought out.

The artworks' subtle colour tones and gradations do not detract from the composition but have the opposite effect of pulling the viewer in.

Fantastically detailed and rendered ships are the compositions action set piece. They bring an energetic enthusiasm to the art and directly contrast the calming effects of the very realistic water in the scene.

In parting this is absolutely breath taking and awesome.

Beautiful work! I just wondered how you managed to get an hole and still be able to erode it. Or didn't you work with heightmaps?

Dave-DK In reply to leeuwen12 [2013-04-30 19:33:27 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!!! The answer to that is fairly simple. I've used several eroded terrains, the arch is a seperate object, butr is shares the same procedural material as the terrain. And because of this it blends nicely together.

leeuwen12 In reply to Dave-DK [2013-05-01 23:14:32 +0000 UTC]

Clever! I already assumed you did it like that but I just wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking an option I was dreaming for for so long now.

btw materials from vue right?

Dave-DK In reply to leeuwen12 [2013-05-02 06:43:23 +0000 UTC]

I make terrain features always as large as possible on 1 terrain, erode them in world machine, (or do everything in world machine). Then I put all terrains together.
The materials were done in vue, but all of them are custom, sometime I add texture-overlays during postwork to increase details.

Splendid!...Yeah I am trying to get the same look and feel in real-time using the CryEngine but I guess I have to find different means to come to the result I am aiming for.

But thanks a lot for your explanation!

Dave-DK In reply to leeuwen12 [2013-05-03 19:34:26 +0000 UTC]

When I need to created very complex detailed terrain with specific features I use world machine 2.
It allows for precisely combinging several base terrains and placing them exacty. But you'de still be bound to a final heightmap.
Sculpting a terrrain in vue can overcome this limit.

Yeah true...or you can render it out as a model...import it and sculpt like your life depends on it XD

Hi Dave,

I'm writing a series of short stories inspired by visual art that I see on DA. Would it be okay if at some point I used the image above as the thumbnail for one of my stories? I would of course credit you, as well as provide a link in the description back to the original image here. Please let me know if that sounds good to you.

Best regards,

-SC

p.s. The link here ([link] ) will give you an example of my writing style.

Put a bit of ambience in to the shadows SOoooo SORRY Keep up the GREAT work Mate

Dave-DK In reply to Jasuez [2012-07-02 19:45:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Jase... The original render had a lot more of ambient in it...
I even added more contrast in post...
I find it hard to get the exact right amount of contrast especially with pc screen behaving really differently... Whish I had a calibrated quality screen

Hello there
Great job!!!You could use some lens flare (i think that might help it to look more cinematic) Keep up the outstanding work.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dave-DK In reply to pavolsvk [2012-06-27 08:12:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!!!
Nice idea but I'm not a great fan of lens flares... as I don't get them real enough...
the PS-kind is just too artificiel to my liking...
Any tips on getting great ones?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pavolsvk In reply to Dave-DK [2012-06-27 13:27:49 +0000 UTC]

I got same problems to get them looking real.. Maybe try to make a paintover in PS..that should work (or if you have after effect, thre are some lens flares on videocopilot.net you can buy) If ill find out some better way, ill let you know!

These flares looks so spectacular... If only I had AE ...
Thx!
