Looks like you had a bit of color/shading problem with Metlesits face.

Half of it is Kirk's face. Doing people is always a problem...

As for the dark eyes... I really have these deep-set eyes. They usually show as dark holes in photographs. Slavic trait...

Yupp, that's where the design comes from. They are bigger, though, about the size of a TOS era Fed ship's saucer.
