That's sweet, three torpedo launchers!
The deflector seems very Voyager/Intrepid class-like.

Thank you!
I based the deflector on the Interpid class. I wanted to show that such a design is common for smaller ships, like the Intrepid or the Avante.

For some reason, this is the best looking form of the Polaris. Might be because many TNG ships already have the secondary hull up against the saucer, without the neck. Plus, this flattens the profile a bit, which gives the ship a more streamlined feel (I may be using the wrong words here, but they're the only ones I can think of right now, lol)

My favourite incarnation is the TMP ship. I had the most work with it and it became my most detailed mesh.

So the whole alliance they made with the Tzenkethi against the Kzinti doesn't matter anymore?

davemetlesits In reply to PaladinArtea [2010-01-12 17:44:41 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. In Trek canon, there was a Fed-Tzenkethi War, this new Polaris series will explore how and why did it break out.

is this new Polaris crew xenophobic? Cause I think that should be gone the way of the dinosaur by the 24th century

davemetlesits In reply to PaladinArtea [2010-01-13 02:51:39 +0000 UTC]
Not as xenophobic as the old Polaris crew, but they have their issues. If it were for them, Earth would secede from the Federation.

hmm...sounds like the Polaris crews would actually better fit the Terra Prime organization than the Federation.

Actually yes! I don't know, I was a "supporter" of Terra Prime since the episode was first aired.

really, Terra Prime are a bunch of racist terrorist SOBs completely against what Star Trek is supposed to be about. I didn't think any fan would support them.

Though there are a number of instances in which the Enterprise D fired a four torpedo spread from that single launcher... And the Sovereign class also has only a single torpedo launcher in the front. I find it interesting that the designers never thought to add more.

In DS9, Sisko remembered many times about his time in the Tzenkethi war. no other canon info is known. In my interpretation, they are the Trek equivalent of Harry Turtledoves "The Race, a.k.a. the Lizards.

I thought that from TNG's later episodes, the Feds had been at war with the Cardassians earlier. Remember the episode when some Gul or another was on Enterprise, and he was shocked that Enterprise could track Cardies by their transponder codes?

Yeah, there was a Cardassian War too. Cardassia and Tzenketh are near both to each other and the Federation. It's an unstable region of space...

Don't forget the official Polaris Class (from the DS9 Technical Manual - The USS Jupp), lacks a secondary hull, looks like a twin-engined TMP era Saladin Class, with upside-down warp necelles! (See my gallery for that one!)

Yes, Sisko served in the war. It ended in 2364, the year TNG started.
