Really cool! See you just made me "kick my own butt" as I have ArtRage and haven't try to use it in a long time!

I've never used it before, other than messing about with the brushes a year ago. Definitely one to use more often for me.

Well you have done an excellent job for only using it the one time! Well when I see the job that it does when others use it, I keep telling myself to toy with it but I just don't get to it. Anyway hope you can use it more, as you really did a cool job!

Thanks. Your gallery suggests you'd make great use of it. When I get a tablet I'll probably try my hand at more advanced paintings.

Your welcome, and I used it at times but I also have PS2, Gimp2.6 and Manga Studio 4 but all act so different. I normally use markers on my drawings, and then use the GIMP since it is the first software application I got familiar with. I use it to enhance things within the drawings like details in the eyes or areas that I can not do using my now "old" eyes. If I'm going to paint a pic, I scan the penciled or inked work then I paint it. I have only a handful of completely digitally made pics, I'm not that good at using the software programs but I will get there at some point!

Similar situation for me, even down to PS2, (but not my copy). I started with Paint.net almost 2 years ago, but found its no good for advanced painting. Gimp 2.6 was also the first program I made full use of for digital painting. I also do my digital paintings from scanned sketches. This one in particular I inverted the colours of the sketch in Gimp, and moved on to paint it in Artrage.

If you haven't tried before, then I also recommend Mypaint and Paint Tool SAI. Mypaint avoids a bloated and complicated interface, and focuses mostly on the brushes, and theres not much of a learning-curve required. Sai has in my opinion, got the best on-canvas colour blending, and it's also reputed for it's inking and line-art.

I'm with you, I do the same after having scan a pic and working with it mostly in GIMP but if I need something that either MS4 or ArtRage has, I then import the pic. The problem sometimes, and I'm sure you have seen it, is that some how your pic loses something in the move. I have always envision a program that are easy to use and provide good results without been complicated. I have heard of Mypaint and Paint Tool but never tried them, I need to check them out! One reason I acquired ArtRage and MS4 was because they seem a bit easier to use and there is not a whole lot of complications when using them. Anyway I will check those 2 programs out and see if I can get a "free trail", I really would love to be able and do a decent digital color like a lot of others here in DA post. Again thanks for the tip, will try them out and see!

Yeah, theres a lot of issues with art programs not supporting the native file format of one another, and even ones that do, something still gets lost in the transition.

Mypaint is free. The good thing about it is you can create your own brushes, and theres plenty to download. The brushes are nowhere near as realistic as Artrage. Where Artrage emulates traditional media, Mypaint tends to mimic traditional media more loosely.

SAI has a 30 day free trial, very reasonable price (like Artrage). It's also expandable with traditional media brushes and the ability to create your own.

Good luck with the other programs for whenever you try them.

Thanks David for the info! You are right, I have done stuff on Gimp and then use Manga Studio and even ArtRage and I have seem when always seems to get a bit lost. Well I give MyPaint a shot and see how it works, take it easy and thanks again!
