Description
This is the first of two art trading cards for a double trade with PeponeNRC :-D Both cards will feature something that relates to the Netherlands in some way. This small painting was inspired by the Dutch marine painter Hendrik Willem Mesdag.

Mesdag was the master marine painter of the Scheveningen fishing boats (also known as "bomschuiten", relatively simple fishing boats that were made to strand on the beach). He belonged to the artist collective known as the "Haagse School" (which focused a bit more on realism instead of romanticism - even though my painting is still kind of romanticism-ish xD). His most famous work is the "Panorama Mesdag" of Scheveningen, exhibited in the Zeestraat in The Hague. He was also a renowned art collector with his own museum, the H.W. Mesdag Museum, now known as The Mesdag Collection, located on the Laan van Meerdervoort in The Hague.

I've been at the Mesdag Museum about five years ago and have been really impressed by the large panoramic painting of Scheveningen that's on display there! You're more or less standing inside the painting because it's all around you, and the lighting is even being influenced by the lighting from outside.
