Whoohoo...amen to acknowledging our "pre-roots"! But shhh...most folks REALLY don't want to admit that fact. I love the title just as much as I love the drawing.

cool palette! with the shiny colors and the sparkly earrings against the black background, she looks really glamorous. the subtle pinks in her skin tone help bring the whole thing together too.

Jebriodo [2007-09-26 20:16:33 +0000 UTC]

Well, you have painted one really nice breast, with good lighting( her right one), but the rest of the painting isn't up to par with it. You've already gotten some good crits from excellent artists- and I agree with them about the plastic look and the non-specific lighting. Also, her hair or hat looks very unfinished next to her face- (nice drawing and painting on the eyes, by the way)
I followed your signature link to your speedpaint video also. I notice you have a habit of doing tight details, then spraying over them with a big blurry brush sort of randomly. I would suggest doing your starting sketch, figuring out where your light sources are, then doing the big blurry brush for areas of shadow, then working on top of that to do details and highlighting. Otherwise you are working against yourself. (If you feel you must use the big blurry brush over detail work, I would suggest lowering its opacity, so you don't lose all your underlying detail work.)

DavideZam In reply to Jebriodo [2007-09-26 22:53:02 +0000 UTC]

speechless... I'm trying to be better and better! Your crits help me like you wouldnt believe!
You're perfectly right, i have to practice and observe much more for the light source and shadows... I don't know how to thank you for the advices. Thanks again Jebriodo! I hope next time you'll find less default on my work!
I go back to work!
See ya next time!
cheers!

(if you got time check out my canvas here [link] it's different than you have seen there.)

Coucou ^^
Joli dessin !

DavideZam In reply to xa-xa-xa [2007-09-26 18:35:33 +0000 UTC]

Merci d'avance!

reminds me of airbrushing perosonally, i'd vary up the use of soft brushing and hard brushing. not all shadows and lights are soft. areas, especially under the chin, will cast a hard shadow. as will direct lighting from around cast shadows. reference lighting on anything when you go in for colouring . it doesn't have to be exactly what you're painting as long as the lighting is what you are looking for. you can always change colours and elements as you see fit.
