Description NOTE: There are some huge spoilers present in this review for the season and for the show itself. If you haven't seen any of these episodes, then don't read this review until you are caught up with everything or please proceed with caution.

Amphibia season 2 officially concluded this past weekend, and I just have to say this.... what an incredible journey season two was. This season managed to exceed my expectations that I had prior to season two premiering, and not only is it better than season one of the show, but it improved upon what season one did well and took its writing, characters, and world building to the next level. All of those qualities combined make for an amazing second season of Amphibia that truly lived up to the hype and anticipation that many fans including myself, had at the end of season one.

But enough of that, let's begin with the review.

I was very pleased that these first 10 episodes focused on building up the world, as it gave us some more lore, details and theories about Amphibia and its secrets. It also provides us with fun and entertaining self containing plots, while also at the same time, expanding the world of Amphibia with new locations that are integral to the premise of the show. These episodes also do a great job on developing our characters more. Anne develops to become a better leader, as she learns about being a distraction to lure away monsters, and learning to become more skilled at combat and protecting the people she cares about. Polly and Sprig learn that bickering with each other will just cause problems, and that trusting each other will help solve their problems. I really enjoy the development that characters go through in cartoons, as it makes me appreciate and love them even more.

Season 2 also does a good job focusing on plot-driven episodes and having fun side episodes that don't feel like their there to pad out the running time. It has a nice balance of pertaining to the main premise of the show with entertaining and fun episodes, while also at the same time, pacing itself by having self contained plots that help build upon the world that the show has already set out. The less important episodes after that are pretty solid and fun on their own, like the return of Wally in Swamp and Sensibility, the crossover episode with Gravity Falls in the episode Wax Museum, the scavenger hunt episode, the episode where Anne and Polly explore Newtopia more, and a few other episodes in the series. Maddie and Marcy is a very fun episode that shows off the dynamic of these two characters and what tactics both of them use to create their magic and potions, The Shut-In is a very fun Halloween themed episode that serves as a nice bridge between the main focus of the episode, and Toad to Redemption was a very nice episode that focuses on Mayor Toadstool and further increases his relationship with the town of Wartwood and its citizens. They are quite a fun treat for us to have, and they give us a little break from the main focus of the season. Toadcatcher is also a very enjoyable episode, where the main focus is shifted away from our main characters, and is focused on Sasha and Grime and their relationship developing, and how Sasha is feeling after her battle with Anne at Toad Tower, feeling a little guilty, but also at the same time, not trying to show any emotion about it. The side plot with the new character General Yunnan is also pretty funny and enjoyable.

Once the Planters arrive at Newtopia, that's when season 2 really starts to kick off into high gear and showcases how awesome the show can be. Starting with one of the best episodes of the show so far, Marcy at the Gates, this episode showcases what Newtopia is really like: a beautiful and lively city filled with intelligent and smart newts, and what their culture is like.

During this time, we are introduced to new characters, with the first one obviously being our third human character, Marcy Wu. A very smart, intelligent, adorable and clumsy character who shows that she's capable of doing stuff on her own. Using her knowledge and smarts to get things done, while also being completely oblivious as to what's even happening around her, she is one of the most relatable characters I've seen in a cartoon series. We also are introduced to the ruler of Newtopia, King Andreas, who is turned out to be evil during the season finale True Colors. Shown as a nice guy at first, he manipulated Marcy into his secrets and was actually the one who had the calamity box in his possession until it was taken by friends that he trusted, waiting for the right time to turn bad and then steal the calamity box to restore power to Newtopia. He is a very relentless and evil villian, but somehow I enjoy his evil banters, and he actually has a good reason as to why he turned his back on the three girls. He is most likely set up to be the big villain in season three, so I am looking forward to how the show will play him out. Other new characters include Frobo, Anne's friends from Newtopia, Priscilla the Killa and Pearl, General Yunnan, and Lady Olivia. These are fun characters that I cannot wait to (hopefully) see once again in season 3

I cannot go through in this review without pointing out the many moments that defined season 2. From heartwarming moments like Marcy and Anne reuniting with each other, to Anne having to make a choice if weather or not she want's to be with Marcy or the Planter's, and eventually making the decision to go back to Wartwood, to Anne and Sprig just simply talking about their mothers, and how they miss them a lot. The emotional moments in season 2 are really heartwarming and amazing, and these are some of the best scenes in the show so far. There were also so many awesome and epic moments that also defined season 2, such as Sasha singlehandedly lifting an entire war-hammer through her own will power, to Anne, Marcy, and Sasha performing "No Big Deal", to Anne obtaining her calamity box powers and putting a smackdown on King Andrias in the season finale, and there were even shocking moments like Marcy getting stabbed by King Andrias right before going through the portal and literally being backstabbed. There were so many moments in season two that just left me speechless, in awe, or made me cry. These are moments that have defined the show in many ways, and they will always stick with me while watching the show, or even years after the show ends.

Some new information about the calamity box is also revealed during episode 10b. The Calamity Box was an ancient artifact only used by the ancestor's of King Andreas. The gems can only be activated when all of the forces and elements are combined by visiting 3 temples. Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are the key elements in order to activate the calamity box, and all three of them have a different gem. The blue gem is heart and compassion, which Anne has, the pink gem is strength and power, which Sasha will have, and the green gem is knowledge, which Marcy has. Marcy and Anne then go through the first and second temples with the plantar family, restore the calamity box powers, and Sasha eventually joins in with them to restore the power of the box so that they can all be sent home, which all leads up to the finale and the best episode of the season, True Colors.

True Colors manages to conclude everything that happened throughout the season in a satisfying, yet shocking way. Every plot detail and character revelation came to fruition in this amazing season finale, and it was filled with great action, good backstories, amazing animation, and incredible sequences. I honestly couldn't have asked for more in this season finale; I am greatly satisfied and happy the way it is. The crew behind this show really put their A-game into this finale, and I am happy their work was able to air without any edits or changes made to the episode. I cannot wait to see what they have constructed for season three, and based off the intro that was revealed, it looks like season three will be an awesome season with even more questions and reveals in store, and I am all in for it.

Overall, season two of Amphibia was incredible. It took all the character development, writing, world building, and moments that were already done well in season one, and just took it up to a whole new level. It is with no question my favorite season in the series so far, and it has definitely earned itself a terrific (90%) rating. It is so satisfying to see Amphibia, a show that I wanted to see reach its potential, already manage to do just that in two seasons. Season two was a ride that I will never forget. Matt Braly, the Amphibia crew, and everyone else involved with the show did wonders to make season 2 of this brilliant show as good as possible, and it definitely shows. Amphibia is truly something special. I am absolutely ecstatic to see what season three will offer for us, and I cannot wait to see what new characters, secrets, twists, and mysteries are gonna be established during the next season of  this magnificent show.
