you seem to realy love what you do,well, you really take the time doing all the details of the composition making them as interesting as main subjects.all part of the action

Yeah I love doing this, and I do try and put in as much as possible. Unfortunately that doesn't always work with the time restraints of the job.

Wonderfull. I guess you had some reference pict for that. The black shadowing over it is great too.
I see you put some hair under Logan's arm. I did a Logan commission myself and couldn't really choose an option. Logic would say to put hair as it is his nature. But I was affraid of the "dead squirel" effect.

Mr-NYM [2009-11-13 06:22:13 +0000 UTC]

I think if you filled in the sky with black so that the white smoke/dust would create more contrast in the positive and negative space it would bring the characters forward.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

davidyardin In reply to Mr-NYM [2009-11-17 01:15:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah maybe... but this commission was so big, that would have been a lot of ink. Too late to change now anyway.

RussMcLane [2008-12-22 04:13:32 +0000 UTC]

Love the anatomy on Rhino! Amazing shadows too. Just looks like a scary muscle mass coming in for the attack. The background is damn amazing as well. Love the rebar coming out the concrete chunk is great. Like that piece of realism there.

I actually think Wolverine could be a little shorter. I agree with Mr.Plaid's comment about the lats, disagree about the comment on the long right arm. Anyway, great drawing! I'd love to see it colored!

Great piece David! Love all the textures!

How did you ink the Rhino? Is it sort of a split hair/drybrush technique, or individual brush lines?

-B*

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

davidyardin In reply to BillReinhold [2008-11-27 00:09:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Bill.

With the Rhino I was originally going to render his skin like a rhino's hide, but I ended up feathering it instead. That looked wrong so I went back and did the split hair dry brush over the feathering.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BillReinhold In reply to davidyardin [2008-11-27 09:06:18 +0000 UTC]

Well I think it worked out great, and if this was colored it would be so easy to add some of that "hide" texture if you wanted to.
