Description Another piece for the Family "project", a remaking of this one: dawn22eagle.deviantart.com/art… As with the other drawing of Rainbow's family, I put here the headcanon for AJ's parents with some added things and corrections :3
So, here we have Boxer Quince Apple and Clover Grapevine (yes, at first I had made her a part of the Apples, too, but then I ended up changing her belonging just because), Applejack, Big MacIntosh and Apple Bloom's parents. Aaaaaaaaaaand once again I realize only now that I still haven't put Granny. I guess I'll have to re-upload it some time in the future when I'll have drawn her as well ^^"

Both Applejack's parents were draft horses, even though Clover was smaller and lighter than Boxer. Of their foals, only the elder ones inherited this trait - Apple Bloom is in fact a bit shorter than average mares when she grows up, whereas Applejack and Big MacIntosh are clearly stouter than most ponies.

Both Boxer and Clover were born in the same farm, a great building where a lot of other families lived. The farm was owned by a rich Unicorn, and every pony had to pay him with the few money gained working. And if somepony didn't pay the owner on time, they were literally kicked out of the farm, abandoned and with no help. Life was not easy there, also because the Unicorn didn't guarantee defense from criminals and predators which could easily attack the farm. In this time of crisis and misery was born Boxer, who had to learn fast how to work without the help of older ponies. Luckily for him, he was strong and he loved working, since he was told he did it to help his family. He had many siblings older than him, who taught him everything he had to know about life on the farm. He didn't even know what was outside the fence, over the fields and the short horizon he saw. But he didn't really care. At least, it seemed so. Maybe he secretly wanted to go away and live on his own. Nopony knew - he never talked about that. He never really talked about anything, he just listened and lowered his ears at the end of every conversation. And as time passed, he became always more and more silent, doing only his job and teaching younger ponies what to do. It was very difficult to approach him. He was like a wild animal, afraid of being hurt by strangers. Adults didn't like his behavior, but decided to ignore him. The other colts and young stallions sometimes tried to play with him or make him smile, but without success. Fillies, instead, just watched him and whispered to each other. Boxer was now a handsome and muscular teenager and, even though he wasn't looking for any kind of relation, not even a friend, he was always followed by the young females. This soon became quite annoying, since he he preferred working over talking, and those slackers were just making him lose his time.

One day he was assigned to a gray, white socked filly who was more or less his same age to tow a heavy rocks wagon. He muttered something about the filly and something about the uselessness of rocks in a farm, but then he sighed and got near the filly. She smiled sweetly at him, but he just lowered his head and walked past her. That's what I'll have to bear this afternoon, the filly kept on thinking. They worked for hours in complete silence, when suddenly Boxer spoke. He complimented the gray filly for her great job, as she looked at him quite surprised. - Boxer. Boxer Quince Apple. - he concluded, closing his eyes with a hint of pride in his voice. She smiled and nodded, not saying anything. Anyway, he continued: - It's funny we've never met before. - Before she could answer, he started again: - Let's see what y're like. Tonight, when the lights turn off. Y'll find me behind the barn. Ah'll wait fer ya, silvery. - She tilted her head but accepted the challenge anyway: she was not the pliable one, that's for sure. She was certain she was as strong as him, to say the least. And she would have shown him.

- I knew you were just like the others! - shouted Boxer, grinning. That was enough to make Clover sprint forward, leaving the colt behind. The mare smirked cockily, raising her head in a challenging way. He didn't know who he was talking to. She was faster and agiler than anypony she had ever met, so she was obviously going to win. That would have happened if she hadn't tripped on a rock while looking behind, at the orange muzzle right next to her shoulder. And since they were running fast, hitting the ground was painful for the mare. She fell and moaned, trying to stand up, while Boxer galloped towards her to make sure she was unhurt. Clover had several scrapes on the right side of her neck, since it was the first part of her body that had touched the ground. Her right hip was bleeding as well, but nothing serious had happened to it. Examining the mare, Boxer spoke again, overcoming his personal record of words said in a day: - Whoa, silvery, ya surely fell quite badly. Ya got some scratches here and there, but Ah think it ain't nothin' serious. Are you ok? - At first, she glowered at him, but then she smiled slightly and finally stood on all four legs. She said something about the next day, and that it was better if she worked anyway, but Boxer wasn't listening. It was the first time he cared about something. It was the first time he cared about somepony.

They spent the next months working together, and Clover was the only one who comforted Boxer when his parents starved to death. They always laid one near the other when darkness fell, admiring the stars in complete silence. They didn't race anymore, after that first time, also because there was no need to prove their physical skills. Now almost everypony had started to wonder about their being so close to one another, but then again, everypony decided to ignore the fact they were probably going to cause some trouble. Boxer and Clover shared their first night of love and passion after their first kiss, in a cold and windy night. A few weeks later, the Unicorn decided to "fire" some of his non-paid workers. He chose Clover's family and the stallion which never answered his questions, Boxer. His behavior had started to annoy the farm's owner, even though the Unicorn never really asked him anything. It was just to have one less worker to financially support. After being kicked out, the four ponies didn't know what to do. However, a few days later, Apple Tart (whose name then changed into the more known "Granny Smith" because her husband was a blacksmith), Clover's mother, was finally able to contact her sister, who still lived with her family in the farm in Ponyville, where the green mare had lived, too. The houseless ponies were lovingly welcomed to stay as long as they wanted to, and soon they started to call that place their home. Soon, Granny Smith's sister had to move to Appleloosa because of her husband's job, so now there were only Clover's family and Boxer living in the farm. A few weeks later, Clover's father died because of a serious infection and after not a long time, Clover found out she was pregnant. She and the unborn foal's father were only 18, but they loved each other so much that they didn't care about their young age.

Little Big MacIntosh was born as strong as his father but with the same patience of his mother. His white socks and yellow hooves reminded of the orange stallion's legs and, as the latter always said to his son, this meant they were the strongest in the whole Apple family. Big MacIntosh really did enjoy working, just like Boxer, and always followed him through the fields and in the stables. He loved wearing Boxer's collar, even though it was very heavy and he couldn't move much if he had it on.

Jacqueline Golden Apple (always abbreviated by Boxer as "J" and later, since at school she was called always by her family name, "AJ" or "Apple Jackie", which then became "Applejack"), instead, was more of a lively and really stubborn one, who always refused to be told what to do. The age gap between Big Mac and AJ is 5 years long, so it was Big MacIntosh who taught his little sister everything about the farm life. He was always happy to explain things to her, who listened carefully and then ran back to the kitchen, were her mother was, and shouted happily her new discoveries. This always caused Clover to playfully roll her eyes and turn to her daughter to listen to the day's biggest news. But the filly was not always a soft and cute piece of cake. As time passed, she became more and more daredevil, and things got even worse when she met a certain Pegasus. The farm pony often came back home covered in dirt and with her legs full of scratches, bleeding but causing no pain to the orange pony. Seeing this, Boxer used to raise an eyebrow and then medicate his daughter's wounds, wondering how she could hurt that much only by going to school and back. Granny Smith always ruffled Applejack's mane, laughing, as Clover did the washing up, smiling to herself.
It was the usual scenario of almost every evening, until one day, when Applejack was 9, Clover was nowhere to be found, as well as Boxer. Granny Smith knew about them, but said nothing and just accompanied her two grandchildren to the barn. There, Clover was lying on the hay, next to her beloved stallion, with a yellow bundle near her belly. Big Mac was so excited at the sight of his new sister, he ran to his parents and stared at the fluffy filly in joy. Applejack, instead, who had never seen a newborn foal, looked at her with curiosity and a bit of concern. - Who's it? - was her first question. Boxer and Clover giggled, as the gray mare raised her head and licked the small creature. - She's your sister, Wild Strawberry Bloom. - she answered calmly. Applejack didn't know how to react at first, but when she understood what her mother had said, she jumped and picked up the little foal, hugging her. It is Applejack who shorted her name into Apple Bloom, since the orange pony, who had sworn to protect her sister and teach her anything she knew, preferred apples to strawberries.

Unfortunately, Clover died a few months after Apple Bloom's birth. This caused terrible pain to her two elder children, but it hit AJ worst. The orange filly was completely devastated, and for a lot of time she spent her days together with Apple Bloom. Just the two of them, in the dark barn or under a tree, hugging each other tightly. Apple Bloom couldn't understand her sister's pain, but her presence was enough to Applejack. Boxer was sorrowful, too, and sometimes he felt so sore that he just fell on the ground and cried for hours with one of his children by his side.
The stallion was killed by a burglar as he was coming back home with a little gift for his son and daughters. Back then, Apple Bloom was 6, and the news of her father's death hit her like a bullet in the chest. Since then, she promised to undertake every job she had to do, just like her father did. She improved her physical skills and she got a little tougher, even though her kind and gentle personality didn't change because of that.

There, have some headcanon to read since I haven't shown you all anything for more than a week. As always, ask any question you want and enjoy! :3

Thank you :3 I was inspired by Orwell's Animal Farm for the parents' names (and a bit of Boxer's personality) and by X Agosto (August 10th) for Boxer's death :3
I've already posted Fluttershy's and I'll soon finish Pinkie's :3

I nearly cried at this (but I cry at everything). One of my favourite things about your headcanons is the gorgeous names you give them. Jacqueline Golden Apple and Wild Strawberry Bloom sound so amazing.
