Mkay, so this is gonna be a LONG LONG LONG description, but I'd REALLY appreciate it if you'd read it, or at least some of it. I worked forever on this. And some of the symbolism you probably won’t understand unless I explain.

So. First off, I can't draw people, but I LOVE Hetalia, and wanted to do some art for it. So this is my way of drawing the countries. I looked around DA, and I saw a few people that had drawn one or two countries as dragons, but never all of them. I drew all of these at school, then copied and scanned them onto one piece of paper. I was originally going to hand color it, but it didn't work out... so glad I did it this way instead.

I labeled all of the characters, so it hopefully shouldn't be hard to see who's who. I got everyone who's appeared in the anime, except for Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Cuba, and the other Nordics. I'm ridiculously pleased with this (Could you tell? XD), so if you’d listen to my explanation of why the dragons look the way they do and/or are colored the way they are, I’d really appreciate it. They all kept their eye colors/styles from the anime/manga.

Alright, here goes- Just kind of started at the bottom and made my way up.

Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia: SYMBOLISM YAY. All of them are the colors of their countries current flags. During WWII, they’re presented as the ‘Trembling trio’, so they are here too. Russia had complete control of them, so the coloration is fading into monochrome to show that they aren’t really their own nations anymore. Does that make sense? Kind of like Russia absorbed them into his culture, so they’re losing their individuality. And Estonia has his glasses, because none of the characters with them looked right otherwise.

Hong Kong- Don’t know much about the actual character, it was kind of an accident that I drew him anyway. He has the curse of the thick eyebrows from England, as well as the fin (get to that later), and then the horns from the other Asian nations.

South Korea- All I’ve really picked up about him from the webcomic is that he’s more of a modern nation, so neon and bright colors.

China- He just kind of looks like my idea of a Chinese dragon… it may be a little unoriginal, but it fit better than anything else.

Japan- It seemed like Hetalia really stresses how separated Japan was from the rest of the world, so none of the other dragons look anything like him. He kept the tendril-y horn things from China’s design, and has the color of the Japanese flag. Aside from that, I just made him as alien looking as possible.

Greece- GREECE GREECE GREECE LOOKAT HIM!! HE’S SO PRETTY ! Ahem… I honestly don’t know why he quite looks like that; I was going for an almost medieval/mythology feel. He’s scaled because I wanted to make the Mediterranean characters look a little different, as they feel more separated in the anime. And of course he is asleep.

Poland- Lithuania is thinking about Poland because they used to be a Commonwealth, and then Poland just sort of abandoned him. No symbolism here. He’s dripping with paint because he tried to dye himself purple.

Sealand- He looks a lot like England, but he’s colored differently… I wasn’t going to include him, but I was outvoted by my mom and brother. He IS kind of iridescent looking and pretty, though ^^.

England/Flying Mint Bunny- Eyebrow fins. I couldn’t resist. Color wise, green because of his military uniform, red and white because of his flag. The wave patterns were originally going to be blue, but it didn’t look right at all. That and the fin on his underbelly represent his time as a pirate. The marking under his eye has a small US flag in it, but it’s faded. I’m sure you can figure out why. Flying Mind Bunny had to be done.

America The HERO- Patriotism FTW! Nantucket is that weird little blue, forwards facing spike on his head. He has a few influences from Iggy, mainly the strip behind his eye and the fin on his underbelly.

Canadia- The mane is because of his French influence (see France). The pattern down his side is made to resemble a maple leaf, with the stripe in the middle being from England. I would have made him a USA clone, but it didn’t work. And yes I spelled it wrong on purpose.

Russia- Kolkolkolkolkolkolkol… more symbolism. The three spines on his nose are very lightly colored as the Baltics flags, because he owns them. The weird thing on his neck (it was an accident at first) represents is scarf, which he is never without. Other than that, he’s as creepy as possible. All will become one, da?

France- I love his expression. It’s so France-like. I started with wine colors… then ran with it and made it pretty.

Italy Veneziano (Italy) - So I tried to give him some German influence, but it didn’t work very well. You can see it in his nose horn, that’s about it. The blue with spots was inspired by his song “Let’s Boil Hot Water”, and his belly is pasta colored! Also, his little hair curl is there ^^

Italy Romano (Romano) – LOTS of influence from Spain here! Most of the colors are the same or similar, except for his horns and side color. The pattern along his spine is the Italian flag, same as his brothers, and he also has his hair curl.

Spain- Spain is just bright and fun, with lots of colors. His nose represents a tomato. Nothing else, just really bright markings.

The great and awesome PRUSSIA- Prussia and Germany have a lot of the same characteristics. Most fans think of Prussia as an albino, so the dragon is too (sorta). Dang it, I should have drawn Gilbird too.

Germany- He’s the colors of his flag, and I kept the style of his eye pretty well. Tried to make him look fierce and dangerous- did it work?

HRE- Black and white, because of his clothes. Slight reference to the HRE=Germany theory in his horns and pattern, and a nod to Austria's design with the stripes. I added him last minute, because there was still room on the paper I wanted to fill.

Sweden- He’s the color of his flag. A bit more basic than the other ones, to make him seem more stoic and glare-y. One of my personal favorites here XD

Finland- He has a line of fur all down his neck/back, and a hard plate on his forehead. No real reason why, other than it’s cold where he lives. His main skin is the color of his flag, and his horns are red and white because he’s Santa

Belarus/Ukraine- Belarus is a flat, creepy character IMO, so I made her that way. Very demented looking. Ukraine always seems to be weak and worrying, so she looks very gentle and… worrying, with soft lines and round edges.

Turkey/Ottoman Empire- Mediterranean, see Greece. His mask is represented as a large scale/plate covering most of his face. If you look, you can kind of see his eye.

Hungary- No real symbolism, except that she looks like a rough, masculine dragon as opposed to feminine.

Austria-Last one! He’s purple because of his usual clothing. Mariazell (his hair thing), is the single horn on the other side of his head. He does have glasses, and a few whimsical markings that remind me of a treble clef.

Done. All done. Finally.
