He looked up and watched the distance between himself and his daughter rapidly grow. He was relieved to see that Xena was able to maintain a hold on Beth’s chute throughout the deployment. She wouldn’t be alone in what was to follow, and he knew Xena would sacrifice everything to keep her safe. Jim closed his eyes and surrendered to the gravity, letting it do its work. He relived the happy times he was able to experience with his daughter. The images ran through his mind like a run-on movie. A small grin started to form at the corner of his mouth. His heart was finally at peace.
