Year 1714, epoch in which Barcelona was submitted to a long siege by the army of Philip V. The long resistance that objected the city gave place to which this king wanted to assure your authority.

One year later, Philip V arranged the construction of the biggest citadel of Europe, with the aim to be able to monitor the city, and to construct it it made knock down the neighborhood of the Bank. The year 1716 was begun to construct the buildings, which were paid for the city.
