Well done. I'm preparing to paint one myself.

You know, this is a really nice piece of work. I think it is kind of unfair that you'd ask for a critique but you won't give us details on how you made it. Did you place a photo in Illustrator and trace it with a pen? Did you use live paint? Did you cut pieces by color in Photoshop and then live paint them? Come on man, give us the juice!

I like to hand an image of a photograph or poster then, tighten the lines with a black pen. Scan the image in at 300dpi, then in Illustrator CS3 I take the image using the pen I fill in each shape with what ever color or gradient I feel looks close enough. But lately I have been to lazy to draw the images out so I just lay the ref images on the table and just draw the shapes out in AI. Just taking the one thing my father taught me "Draw what you see" So I do.

Actually this is one of my fist attempts at creating an Illustration from an image. With this I did trace with the pen tool. Oh the endless hour it took. Once the outline was complete I had both images side by side and began trying to match the colors as close as possible. After this one I learned it is just easier to create the images by eyeballing it, instead of tracing it. From there I began to look at images in a whole new way. Breaking them into shapes then adjusting the shapes to create an image. Though my work is not nearly as clean as tracing it was, but I am happy the images still kind of look like something.
