Whilst those who visit Vabmojer usually do so to see the magnificent herds and deadly predators, there are also plenty of fascinating animals that are overlooked. Such is the case with the Trunkslugs, a group of ubiquitous invertebrates that form the main diet of many Vabmojan insectivores.

Trunkslugs are small, rarely exceeding five centimetres, although they are usually much smaller than this. They usually have an arched body, with two "feet" at either end. The hind "foot" has powerful muscles, and propels the animal along in a rocking motion. These feet are also part of the digestive system - the mouth is in the centre of the front "foot", the anus in the rear. The mouth is lined with sharp little teeth, and is used to scrape off plant material from leaves, algal mats and lichens. Trunkslugs also have a soft, leathery shell which affords them a little protection. These shells can be brightly coloured, although the reason behind this is unclear, since the creatures seem to lack eyes. They are hermaphrodites, and reproduce through organs located in the feet. In order to mate, the two Trunkslugs must join mouth-to-anus, creating a circle referred to by biologists as an ouroboros. During the mating, the two 'slugs lock together tightly, to the extent that two joined Trunkslugs can be stood upright and rolled down a gentle slope, without them breaking apart.

One specialised group of Trunkslugs are known as Pebbleslugs. They have grown much thicker and more rounded shells, within which the body is hidden. These shells cause the 'slugs to look just like pebbles, hence the name. Their front "foot" is greatly atrophied, and no longer functions as a limb, instead acting solely as a feeding organ. These 'slugs are quite common in scrubland areas, although they also thrive in forests, and sometimes in deserts.

Like many Vabmojan invertebrates, Trunkslugs are a prized delicacy. One favourite recipe among Vaghisans involves frying them in butter, before serving them with herbs and a mild hummus-like dip. They are also said to go well with fine red wine.

Well, I assume they could probably be given alcohol until made drunk. Perhaps an "experiment" is in order...
