Description So. I decided to replay the Mass Effect series. Despite the ending. Because I really wanted to do a 'black widow' run. Ie, everyone around me dies (especially my romances). In retrospect I should have played dudeShep (romance Ashley, let her die, romance someone else in ME2, let her die, romance Kaidan, kill him) but I shall have to press on as this, because Shepard is and will always be female to me. I've had moments looking at pictures of the entire squad and going "someone is missing... oh. Oh, it's missing femShep. That's why that dude looked so out of place..."

Well, point being, an hour or two into ME1, I set foot on the Citadel together with Kaidan and Ashley and... this pops out of Ashley's mouth. We are standing right next to a pair of salarians. I just... Ashley... this is why people think you're racist/whateveryouwanttocallitwhenit'saliens.

What cracked me up about this is how randomly she says it. I think it was supposed to be triggered by the keepers or something? But it pops up EVERYWHERE on the presidium. If she said it in the wards, she'd get shanked.

Ddriana In reply to Isselia [2016-05-23 10:06:47 +0000 UTC]

Haha yes, I am also pretty sure it was meant to be triggered by the keepers but... nope. Anything. Anyone. Any random place. Thanks, Ashley, we got it the first time. Please stop, you are embarrassing us.

It was: "I can't tell the difference between THOSE aliens and the animals", not "THE aliens". 'Those' means some specific kind of them. It was line reserved for the Keepers, but the glitch made her tell it everytime. It has been explained by her writers on BSN years ago. Check her support thread.

When she first said this, I remember stopping, turning the camera to look at her and just stared at her for a good few minutes. "… You better prove yourself worthy of being saved from Eden and that there isn't a choice to kill one of you off." Once I got Garrus, Tali, and Wrex though … she wasn't worth much as a squad member to me the further I got. Kaiden just barely scrapped by by being puppy cute, though there was no romance.

The first time I played ME1 I saved Kaidan... because I had just upgraded his armor and it had an expensive regeneration boost on it :I I wish I had a better reasoning behind my decision, but alas it was all about that armor.Β

There was a betting pool that I'd do something like that. I have such ~*~lovely~*~ friends. My best friend won most of those, including my preference to Garrus.

I had a similar thing happen to me when I borrowed a book from a friend. She and another friend, without knowing the other said the same thing, informed me that I would love a specific character. I firmly denied I was that predictable. I adored him one paragraph into his introduction and he remained my baby throughout six books :I

BobtailedDumpling In reply to Ddriana [2013-12-02 18:58:56 +0000 UTC]

That is me in everything. Unfortunately for me, I always adore the one who will die horribly either immediately or in the next sequel (Carlos and Gat from Saints Row, Marco from SnK/Attack on Titan, the list is endless). It is rare for my "baby" to be the fan favorite. In Fable 3 after finding out that neither "Love interest or Villagers?" save option yield a difference to the game I just waited it out so that both groups would die. My ME friend who got me to play it fears for when a similar scenario will rear its head.

I do not suggest investing in a web comic called "Homestuck". Everyone dies at least once, some at least twice or start off dead.

*Claps*

I love what you did there.

Now that I think about it, whenever I brought anyone onto the Citadel, I always avoided Ash. Not sure why, I know it was unintentional. But it has me thinking, that's for sure.

A shame that the ending didn't live up to the series. My music teacher said once that when playing a solo piece, people tend to remember the beginning and the ending of the song more then the inbetween. I guess that applies to video games too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ddriana In reply to Poison1234 [2013-04-22 20:31:29 +0000 UTC]

First time I played ME1, Garrus and Tali were my team most of the game XD Second time, I made a point in having some variation, so Ashley got to leave the ship once in a while. Ended up getting stuck with Liara and Ashley during end game though, because I wasn't thinking XD

I think that's true for a lot of storytelling, as well as music. Though I tend to be rather forgiving if the beginning isn't great (ME1 didn't start all that well in my opinion) provided the in-between sucks me in.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Poison1234 In reply to Ddriana [2013-04-23 01:05:38 +0000 UTC]

I ended up with Garrus and Kaidan as my end-team.
I remember thinking that it'll be fine. That was until Kaidan started dropping like there was no tomorrow, and Garrus just wouldn't FOLLOW ME.
I hate when that happens.

On the other note, I agree with you. But I played ME2 first before ME1, so when I started ME1 I was a bit disappointed.
I was also a bit put out about the elevator conversations. Whenever I bring my team into an elevator, THEY REFUSE TO TALK.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ddriana In reply to Poison1234 [2013-05-01 18:34:26 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I've only really had problems with the aliens (that's a comic waiting to get finished...) but it's nice to see the humans have their issues too XD

Gasp! No elevator convos? ... did you perhaps bring the same team too often? They do run out of convos after all (I should know, dragging Garrus and Tali around everywhere...)

Poison1234 In reply to Ddriana [2013-05-01 23:03:15 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure. There was that one time I brought Tali and Garrus and they didn't talk. Then, when I brought Kaidan and Ashley into THE SAME ELEVATOR they started talking. I have NO idea.
