Ah, the Antheus. Biggest plane I've seen, and the NATO name is quite disturbing on one side.
Ya' better keep this up!

The NATO name for the An-22 is "Cock". That's why it's disturbing.

Countless times the queen has flown the sky,
seen so many dusk and dawns, prouldy made the most out of moments and time,
the people were helped and she was loved and cared for, that makes her still smile,
but not the day has come to land to rest, nothing to prove, she has passed the test.
And so in the highest regards and respect we give her the salute, a loving memory will always be with us,
in our hearts we cherish this token, no words, no sound, it is best watched mute.

I'm going to say Aeroflot, considering it's an Antonov plane... I guess those classic uniforms never get old!

The Antonov. One GIANT fucking plane. A lot of people think the C130 is big, but no. The Antonov takes the cake. Nicely done Robot. I look forward to seeing the next one : P I got something I need to say about it.

Its more along the lines of on the next Antonov picture, it feels like you should be able to see all 4 props, but instead can only see 3 of them. Just my opinion.

That is only because a lot of people haven't heard of the C-124 Globemaster II, the C-133 Cargomaster, or the C-141 Starlifter let alone seen one.Β Compared to them the ANT 22 is only slightly larger.

Maybe in size. Not entirely certain on that, but just maybe. But in overall carrying capability, the Antonovs have them beat. Some of them are beat by nearly double. And if you bring into account the one off built Miriya, that wait difference grows by almost another 100 thousand pounds. Sure the C class cargo planes are large and as I said before, probably similar to the Antonovs (The wiki says the AN-124 has a cargo bay thats only 20% large than the C-5 Galaxy).Β In overall workload though, which is where in my opinion a lot of the astonishment comes from, the Antonovs have the cake and ate it too. XP
[I have heard of all those planes you listed. I used to be a plane nut. Still am to some extent]

What annoyed me was your apples to oranges comparison of the C-130 to the AN-22.Β Two different aircraft build to different specifications.Β My point was that people forget, if they ever knew,Β the US was using as big of aircraft before the AN-22.Β The C-141 has a greater payload and the C-133 had a greater take off weight than the AN-22.
As far the AN-124 and the AN-225 go, they are fine aircraft, no doubt about it, coming some ten years after the C-5,Β and the Miriya will remain the world's largest aircraft for a long time to come beingΒ about the maximum size any airport can handle.Β Currently there is no demand for anything larger.Β

Oh most certainly. And yeah, I do apologize for that. I didnt think to account for production times and such as to when the planes were released. Thanks to all this though, Ive gotten a bit back into my fan of planes again. Probably going to read up on all these planes. Its a bit fascinating as to what they all are used for precisely (other than the generic title they are given of heavy cargo lift aircraft)

Actually it is I who owe the apologize since I got my lb. mixed with my kg.Β andΒ the AN-22 is quite a bit bigger the either the C-133 or the C-141.Β It must be a sign of old age.Β How ever it is alwaysΒ good to talk with a fellow lover of aircraft.

*nod nod* Indeed. Im still looking forward to some of the information coming out about the new fighter jet being developed. Not sure whether I have high hopes for it or not considering what little I have heard, it doesn't sound much different than the F-22. But who knows.

Raoz-Spaz In reply to Gnoll-El [2015-02-26 03:41:47 +0000 UTC]
Its a US plane. There was an article brought up on it in my local newspaper. It seems like itd be a pretty good idea, but Im not sure the costs will relate well enough to its capabilities over the F22.
