Description Ginyu Taicho!!

...Another boring picture. Nothing interesting to see here, please move along.

Captain Ginyu, showing general anatomy failure and completely impossible perspective. But I rather like the shading in this one.

Will also be part of the cover art I'm working on.

Dragonball Z is (c) Akira Toriyama

I am glad Ginyu has fans. My favorite character. And plus you draw him so well.

The perspective might be impossible(maybe. I can't tell) but it makes him look very (Arrgh, please don't kill me!!) cute. x3
Love how you stylized his name. And the Ginyu-squad logo - my God, how did you shade it like this? *___*

I'm curious, by the way: what is it that you find attractive about Ginyu?

Cute?! Like those puppies? Awesome! XD
Whoops, you just remembered me that I forgot to refer to the font I used for his name. I always forget that. >_>
And the logo, isn't much really. ^^ I did it in soft shading, using some outer glow effects in photoshop. And than I used that neat effect that automaticaly seperates the different hues, I don't know what it's called in english. ^^ So yeah, I didn't do it by hand...

And, and... what I find attractive about Ginyu? You mean, besides his good looks? ... No seriously, you don't really want me to start gushing over Ginyu, do you? :3

Yes, exactly like the puppies! XD

"you don't really want me to start gushing over Ginyu, do you?" On the contrary, that's exactly what I wanted! I myself like the color scheme: violet + red = <3 Doing all those poses with a straight face would require incredible confidence and restraint, so he has my respect, I guess. But I want to hear your reasons!

Aww, yes I love his red eyes and overall purpleness
And... oh god, where to begin. I just adore the fact that despite his eccentric behavior he still was the leader of a special squad under an extremly powerful ruler. And he was doing a very good job, as far as we can tell (up until Namek, at least... ^^)I think out of Freeza's men, he was the only one who didn't serve him simply out of obedience or neccesity, but showed true loyality instead. Now, being loyal to a relentless tyrant probably shouldn't be a favoring argument... in real life XD. But this is what makes this character particular interesting - to me at least.
And since you've mentioned his maintainig a straight face at all times... that's what draws me in to him as well. Everything the Captain does is serious business - be it those ridiculuos poses or conquering planets for Freeza. And boy, does he take great pride in it. Also he was one of the few DBZ baddies that showed some kind of honor in fighting. As long as he's certain that he's on equal ground with his opponent. That Body Change on the other hand is a very dirty trick, I confess. XD Dirty and awesome.
And, even if it's probably not his original body , I also like his character design. I don't know what, or why, but there's something about his face that simply makes me squee. X3 Maybe it's because he looks so much older than most DBZ characters, and I always prefered older men buuut that's where I'd better stop writing, good god! x_X I could murder someone with that text block I just typed up. Well, it's not like I didn't warn you.

Well good. He'd better have style, or else he wouldn't be THE captain.

The emblem looks awesome, and Ijust love the fact that you do these all originally, they arent copied from other pictures like most people.
Thats what makes you much more interesting to watch.
The perspective looks good, the legs might come out a bit too far but its awesome none the less.
Keep it coming!

Thank you! I'm using the need to practise drawing as an exuse for drawing fan art, so simply copying things would get me zero points. Sure, I'm often referencing the Dragonball manga for fighting poses, but more often than not, the characters Toriyama drew are replaced by other characters. I'm only copying the poses - and even that not 1:1.

Trust me, your perspective is better than mine.

I just generally fail at perspective, most drawings.

Meh, it really is hard. Practice, practice, practice, right?

RyunoOhi In reply to DeadlyChestnut [2010-01-04 23:11:20 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. This is why, if you looked back at all of my textbooks throughout grad school, college, high school, etc., you'd see a backwards timeline progression of my art. I'm the class genius who sits in the front row, under the teacher's nose, doodling. As long as I get A's & I'm not disruptive, only the really mean teachers ever said anything.

I wonder if whoever bought my old textbooks ever wondered who drew in them. I totally shoulda signed my art back then.

DeadlyChestnut In reply to RyunoOhi [2010-01-04 23:19:56 +0000 UTC]

I totally did that too. Only that I never was a straight A student. Ask me if I ever cared. XD
That one teacher still as a drawing from me though, because he snatched it away when I wasn't able to give an answer. ><

You totally should have done that! I only doodled all over my personal folders, because we got the textbooks lend from the school.

I doodled all over the lent books as well! I still do!^^' ...And then comes the day to return the books and I'm stuck franticly erasing it all - for hours, sometimes.

God, you are crazy. I'd never have dared to do that - books are serious business... Okay I did draw on the tables at school, but that's something different entirely. <<

CaptainBrokenTail In reply to DeadlyChestnut [2010-01-07 14:43:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm a horrible person, yeah. T^T But I never make plans to draw all over books and.. (uh, Hefte? Wow, that's a first for me - forgetting a word in English while still knowing it in Deutsch) It just... happens, kinda ^///^'

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadlyChestnut In reply to CaptainBrokenTail [2010-01-07 18:32:34 +0000 UTC]

No, of course not, I don't do that intentionally either.
And that word you're searching for is simply "notebook" in English... I think?

Lucky, I had to buy my books....Of course, I went through college on scholarship, so I only had to pay for books, but they were god-awful expensive! @_@o $60+ bucks for one book is outrageous.
